Need for the DocumentEdit

Marriage is a legal contract binding two people together, granting them rights and obligations. To be able to proceed with the marriage ceremony, the couple must first apply for a Marriage Edict or Proclamation.

The Edict or Proclamation of Marriage is an official document stating a couple's intention to be married. Under Dominican Act, this document should be posted in the Consulate in two successive natural eight days each, in order to allow citizens to express opposition to the intention of marriage. Once a Dominican has published an edict and decided not to proceed with the marriage, he/she may not post another edict for the next 6 months from the time the first one was published.
