You must have your biometric features and your signature recorded when submitting your application if you submit it in person at a Danish diplomatic mission (embassy or consulate general) or at an outsourcing agency which receives applications on behalf of a Danish diplomatic mission, at a Danish police station or in the Citizen Service of the Danish Immigration Service or in the Citizen Centre of the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment. If you refuse to have your biometric features and your signature recorded, your application will be refused by the Danish Immigration Service or the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment, that is, your application will not be processed.

If you are residing in Denmark or in a country with a Danish diplomatic mission or an outsourcing agency, you must appear in person at the Danish diplomatic mission or outsourcing agency, at a Danish police station, at the Citizen Service of the Danish Immigration Service or at the Citizen Centre of the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment to have your biometric features and signature recorded. You must to this no later than 14 days from the day you submitted your application. If you fail to have your biometric features recorded before the deadline, your application will be refused by the Danish Immigration Service or the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment, that is, your application will not be processed.

If you are residing in a country in which Denmark has a representation agreement with a Norwegian or Swedish diplomatic mission you must appear in person at the diplomatic mission to submit two facial photos and show valid ID no later than 14 days from the day you submitted your application. If you are later granted a residence permit, you must have your biometric features recorded within a certain period of time after entering Denmark. If you fail to submit two facial photos to the Norwegian or Swedish diplomatic mission before the deadline, your application will be refused by the Danish Immigration Service or the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment, that is, your application will not be processed.

If you submit your application through an online form, in addition to bringing your passport, you must also bring a print of the receipt showing that your application has been submitted digitally. This is needed in order to correctly match your application and your biometric features/facial photos.

If you submit your application by email, by post, by fax or through a third-person, in addition to bringing your passport, you must also bring a copy of the first three pages of your completed application form.

If you live outside Greater Copenhagen, you can also have your biometric features recorded or submit applications with your local police.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • An application form completed and signed and supporting documents. Copies of the originals must be in color and size A4 or standard US paper size (8 1/2" x 11") (For GR1 applications: originals and copies of the originals are required) No two-sided copies are allowed.
  • Valid original passport and a color copy of the passport (all pages including front page). Passport must be valid at least 3 months beyond the expiration date of the permit applied for.
  • Case Order ID and receipt of payment to the Danish Agency for Labour Retention and International Recruitment.
  • Receipt that biometrics have been obtained by one of the Danish Missions
  • Fees: An application fee to the Consulate General in the Danish consulate or embassy, a processing fee to the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment in Denmark and a service charge when biometrics are obtained at the Danish Consulate in.

EligibilityEdit

  • You must still qualify for temporary residence
  • You must be over the age of 18
  • You must have resided in Denmark legally for at least five years.
  • You must not have a criminal record. If you have been sentenced to more than 18 months in prison you are disqualified from receiving permanent residence. If you have been sentenced to less than 18 months in prison (whether suspended or served) you are temporarily disqualified from receiving permanent residence.
  • You must not have any overdue public debts.
  • You must not have received certain types of public benefits for a period of three years prior to submitting your application for permanent residence, or while your application is being processed.
  • You must have submitted a signed declaration of integration and active citizenship in Denmark. Read more
  • You must have passed the Danish language test 1 or a Danish language test of an equivalent or higher level.
  • You must have held a regular full-time employment and/or been enrolled in an educational programme in Denmark for at least three of the five years prior to submitting your application for a permanent residence permit.
  • You must be working or studying at the time of becoming eligible for a permanent residence permit.

According to regulation (EC) No. 380/2008 of 18 April 2008 residence cards issued after May 20, 2012 shall contain an electronic chip with photo, fingerprints and signature recorded digitally. In this way the security against forgery and misuse of residence cards is strengthened considerably.

The decision to introduce fingerprints in residence cards, has been made at a central level in the EU as part of the combat against terrorism, human trade, human trafficking, illegal immigration and other transnational crime.

Asylum seekers will have their biometric features recorded by the police in connection with submitting their application for asylum at Center Sandholm. Quota refugees will have their biometric features recorded at the local police station after entering Denmark.
