Category AM (Small Moped)

  • To apply for the license, if you are 16 or 17 years old you must first complete a driver training course for small moped. Driving program is offered in youth schools. The program is completed with a driving test, which consists of a theory test and a practical test. You also need to take a traffic-related first aid course for young moped drivers. And if you are 18 or older, you must pass a theory test to get a driving license for small moped. Theory test is held by the police. There is no requirement that you have to undergo driving lessons or pass a skill test. You are also not required to take up a traffic-related first aid course.
  • For those aged 16 or 17 years old applications to obtain small moped drivers license shall be submitted to the municipality where you normally resides. For those aged 18 or older, application may be submitted in any municipality. List of different municipalities in Denmark
  • Submit your application along with all other required documents.


Category AM (Big Scooter)

  • To obtain a driving license for large moped you must complete a driver training and driving test (a theory test and a practical test). Driving Training for big scooter is similar in many areas to training for motorcycles.

  • Please remember that your application must be accompanied by a medical certificate, and a certificate from completing a traffic-related first aid course.


Approval of your driving licenses application

Basically, it is the municipality that makes decisions regarding the driving license, including the conditions for its issuance. It is also the municipality that fixes driving tests and require payment. The Police holds driving tests and decides in some cases, on whether you qualify for a license or not. Appealing a Decision

It is the National Police, who handles appeals regarding decisions on the issuance of drivers license by the local authorities or by the police. If you want to appeal a decision, please send your complaint to the police or the municipality who issued the decision. The police or the local authority will then forward your complaint to the National Police.

Deadline: Four weeks from the day the decision was announced by the local authority or the police.

Processing time: Your appeal may be processed in 60 days from the date when all necessary information were gathered. Some cases may require a longer processing time, for example if the case is particularly complex or the National Police is processing a large a amount of complaints at that time.

Required DocumentsEdit

Identification

To prove your identity, you must bring your any previously issued license of the EU model or your valid passport. If you do not have any of those, you can bring your original baptism, name or birth certificate, health card or other suitable identification document specially those that have a photo of you. Documents showing proof of your identity must be issued by a public authority

If you got an identification document but your birth date or birth place is not clearly stated in the document, you will need to providea certificate of identity where your birth date and birthplace clearly stated.

In case your full and used name does not appear in your identification papers, you may be asked to provide proof of the name change by producing a marriage certificate, a certificate of name or documentation for the marriage authority or the population register.

Other documents that you may be asked to submit:

  • Photographs sample
  • Medical certificate issued by your own doctor (except applications for small moped)
  • Certificate of completion of the course in traffic-related first aid (except for applications for licenses for small moped, if you are 18 years or older).
  • A residence permit if you are not Danish or Nordic citizen, and you can not legally reside in Denmark without permission.


Note: Local authorities may also ask you to provide additional documentation. This may, for example. happen if the local authority considers that it is necessary to prove that you live in Denmark. In addition, you may also be asked to provide supporting documentation, for example regarding your health conditions.

EligibilityEdit

Driving licenses are issued to individuals who normally resides in Denmark (that is for at least 185 days in each calendar year, due to personal or professional ties), or persons who can provide proof of having lived in Denmark for at least 6 months as a student.

Any person whose license is restricted, suspended or revoked in another EU or EEA country may not be able to obtain a driver's license.

Applicants for a Category AM driving license must be at least:

  • For Category AM (Small Moped): 16 years old
  • For Category AM (Big Scooter): 18 years old



FeesEdit

For category AM (small moped):

  • Driving license (including theory test) category AM (small moped) for persons who are 18 years old: DKK 120
  • Driving license (including tuition, theory test and practical test) for categories AM (small moped) for persons under 18 years: 440 DKK
  • Theory test and practical test for small moped for those under 18 years beyond the first test: DKK 200
  • Licenses for categories AM (small moped) by unconditional suspension of the right to drive small moped: DKK 120
  • Licenses for categories AM (small moped) for persons who have the right to operate small moped and had to hand over your license through that is temporarily or permanently lost the right to: DKK 120
  • For the exchange of licenses with code on deprivation of the right to drive small moped driving license without such a code, when the disqualification period has expired: 120 DKK
  • Driving licenses in connection with recovery of the right without requiring driving test in cases where the person was under the age of 18 when question was an unqualified driving disqualifications, (deferral disqualification): 120 DKK


For category AM (big scooter):

  • Driving license category AM (big moped): 245 DKK
  • Driving test category AM (big scooter) pursuant to a conditional suspension, an unconditional withdrawal or a driving ban: 245 DKK



ValidityEdit

Category AM driving licenses are normally valid for a period of 15 years.

Driving licenses for small moped are issued in EU format (credit card model) category AM with the addition of a national code, which will limit the license to only small moped. The national codes are only valid in Denmark.

Driving licenses in Denmark enables its holder to operate several vehicles belonging to different categories, one of them is a Category AM license for small moped and big scooters. This type of license permits its holder to operate the following vehicles:

For Category AM (Small Moped): Small moped, two or three-wheeled vehicle that can drive up to a maximum of 30 km/h
For Category AM (Big Scooter):

  • Small Moped
  • Large Moped
  • Light four-wheel car (quadricycle) with a maximum design speed not exceeding 45 kilometers per hour.
