Denmark - Obtain Copy of Marriage Certificate

If you are in Denmark, contact the city hall in the city in which you were married and ask for the records office. You must have been registered there or gotten a license there, so they should have the record.

Or if you are abroad, you can get it from the church in the parish where your Marriage was registered.

Call the relevant municipality (kommune) and ask for the church office. Addresses and telephone numbers can be found on (Danish only).

Alternatively, you can look up contact details for the relevant parish on (Danish only). The person responsible for supplying copies of Marriage Certificates is the Parish Registrar (kirkebogsfrer). Because of Danish regulations the new certificate cannot be forwarded directly to you, but must be forwarded to the Embassy. It can then be collected from the Embassy's Passport Office at the following times:

Monday & Tuesday 9.30 - 12.00
Friday 10.00 - 12.00

  • Establishing eligibility to acquire record:
    • Related applicants must provide proof of lineage.
    • Domestic Partners must provide proof of registration of domestic partnership
    • Attorneys must provide a signed, notarized release from family
    • Genealogists must provide a state-issued card

Processing Time[edit]

Once you have ordered your certificate will be sent to your registered address within 5 working days, if you live in Denmark. If you will not have received your certificate within 5 business days, you must contact the authority processing your order.

When you need a marriage certificate to yourself, you can order it right away if you have a digital signature or NemID.

Once you are logged in using Digital Signature can order one or more certificates.

Only when you re-signed with a digital signature delivered the order. Along the way, you have the option to cancel the order in Sign out.

  • Date of Birth
  • Number of copies
  • Parents Names (with mothers maiden)
  • Applicant Name
  • Applicant Address
  • Indicate your Relationship to the person on requested record
  • Applicant Signature
  • Date

Need for the Document[edit]

Once you have booked a marriage license at the same time, for example. one birth and name, you will notice that it comes from the incident parish. This is because information about the place of marriage for marriages before 2002 is not recorded electronically and must be printed from the original recording.

It is assumed that you have the birth registered or baptized in Denmark, if you need a birth and names / birth certificate, or that it is a marriage certificate for a church wedding in a Danish parish church.
