- How to get married at City Hall
- A civil marriage can be made by the mayor or other person, as the mayor has authorized it. You can choose any municipality will marry in.
- The ceremony usually takes place at City Hall, but the mayor may authorize the marriage takes place, for example, in a forest or park. The site must be within the municipal boundaries.
- Immediately after the ceremony, you get handed the marriage certificate.
- A marriage must be witnessed by at least two witnesses.
How to get married in church:
- If you want to get married in a church, you must contact the pastor of the church where you will marry. He shall carry and deliver municipal certificate of marriage.
- You can get married in a particular church where:
- one of you is a member of the church, and the church belongs to the member's parish
- one of you is a member of the church, and this or you both have a special connection to the church, and therefore wants to be married there.
- You have no automatic right to get married in other churches other than the above two. You may contact the individual parish and ask for permission to marry in a third church.
- There must be at least two witnesses at the ceremony. After the ceremony the priest shall issue a marriage license.
- A priest can refuse to marry you if one of you - or you both - are divorced. If a priest of other religious reasons does not propose to make a wedding, the bishop determines whether the priest should be exempted from performing the ceremony.
National Church blessing of civil marriages or registered partnerships :
- You can have religious blessing by a priest in the church, if you are married civilly or in a registered partnership. The priest has the right to refuse to bless you. If you want religious blessing, you must contact the pastor, he will give the blessing. Note that you retain the original wedding date, even if your marriage will be blessed in the church.
How to get married in an approved or recognized religion
- If you get married in another church, you should contact the community. Wedding to take place within the approved religions if only one of you belongs to the community and the community has priests who have the right to marry. He shall carry and deliver the certificate of verification that your municipality has issued.
How to get married abroad
- Danish authorities can usually only perform marriages in Denmark. Captains of Danish ships cannot perform marriages.
- Only in exceptional cases is it possible to get married at an embassy or another Danish mission abroad:
- This option applies only to persons who, because of their work or other temporary absence from Denmark are unable to marry in Denmark.
- It is only possible in countries where it is not possible to be married by the local wedding authority, such as church or public marriage office
- You need a marriage certificate if you are a Danish citizen and getting married abroad. Marriage certificate may be issued in several languages, and it shows that you are under Danish law qualify for marriage. The certificate is valid for four months after it is issued.
- You must take notice of marriage and the necessary documentation to the municipality where you live or where you last lived in Denmark.
- You can find information about the wedding in Danish churches abroad at the Danish Seamen's Church Abroad. The rules of marriage vary widely from country to country. On the MFA website, you can see how the rules are in each country.

EligibilityEdit
Persons under the age of 18 may not contract marriage without permission from the Marriage Office.
Persons who are applying for asylum cannot get married in Denmark.
There is a fee for marriage if both parts have a permanent address outside Denmark. Please contact the offices involved directly to find the current fee.

When you want to get married, you must apply for it. Do that by filling out a marriage announcement from the municipality, which in one or both of you live.
The municipality shall examine whether you meet the requirements for being married to each other, and draw up a certificate of marriage.
It is the municipalities that decide where to get married. Ask marriage office in the municipality you want to get married.
If you must be married outside the municipality, in a church or in an approved religious communities, you get handed a certificate of marriage, which you must submit to the marriage authority. You should be aware that the certificate of verification may be too old. It must have been issued four months before the wedding.

Need for the DocumentEdit
Getting a married in Denmark requires quite a bit of documentation. Make sure you give yourselves plenty of time to meet all the marriage requirements prior to your wedding date.
In order to get married in Denmark you need to appear at the municipality offices or a Citizen Service Center (Borgerservice). Here you will have to fill in a marriage form and present it along with the required documents.

Divorce decrees and Death certificates issued in countries outside the European Union (with exception of the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, a.o.) must be presented in the original with a Legalization/Apostille. The complete Legalization must also be translated and handed in.

- Certificate of marital status (no older than four month) should be from the places you were born in as well as from your present place of residence (if different).
- Some churches and register offices may require additional documents or may require that you reside in their municipality (kommune) for a period of time before the marriage may be performed.
