Croatia - Obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (Criminal Record Certificate)

Applying process in Croatia for citizens and non citizens.
- a. Apply In-Person
- Applicant in need of Police Clearance Certificate can apply at the “Ministry of justice” or “Municipal court(Općinski kazneni sud)”.

- Go to the respective office. Don’t forget to take the required copy of documents along with originals to the office.
- Please follow as per authorities guidelines and submit the completed application along with documents. Applicant should pay for any charges, if required as advised.
- This application will be processed by respective department.
- The certificate can be collected from the office where applicant applied in-person upon notification or issued as per norms.
b. Apply through mail(post)
- Applicant in need of Police Clearance Certificate can apply by mail(post) to the “Ministry of justice” or “Municipal court(Općinski kazneni sud)”.

- Please find the address as per your requirement through the above online link.
- Once the application is filled in, please attach the completed application, required document and fee paid details.
- Mail(post) these set of documents to the address as obtained above.
- This application received will be processed by respective department.
- The certificate will be delivered to the applicant as per norms.
Applying process – overseas for citizen and non citizens.
- a. Apply through embassy or consulate
- Applicant can apply at their nearest embassy or consulate in person. Link to locate the embassy or consulate: link
- Application form can be obtained from the embassy or consulate. Call the office and fix appointment for personal visit. Also find out the details for this procedure.
- On the scheduled date, go to the office with all the document in original and in copy. Please follow as per officer guidelines to process your application.
- This application will be processed by the respective department. The completed certificates are forwarded to the concern.
- Applicant shall collect the certificate with the respective office upon notification or can get it delivered as per norms applicable.

EligibilityEdit
- Applicant with valid passport and a valid address proof.
- Age: 16 years and above. In case of minors, the application must be submitted by the parent exercising parental authority, if the minor has not turned 16 years.
- The current address of the applicant must be same as in the passport and other supporting documents.
- Applicants who are in need of residential status, employment or long term visa or for immigration to a foreign nation.

- Fee of 40 kn (around £5) payable by tax stamp.

- You should obtain a Potvrda o nekaznjavanju (Certificate of No Conviction) by submitting an application form and presenting a copy of your personal identification card (osobna iskaznica) or passport by mail or in person to Ministarstvo Pravosuda (Ministry of Justice)
If you live outside Croatia
- You should apply at the nearest Croatian embassy or consulate.

Need for the DocumentEdit
A police certificate is an official document issued by police or government agency of a country to enumerate any criminal records that the applicant may or may not have. Criminal records may include arrest, conviction, and possibly criminal proceedings.
A Criminal Record Certificate issued by the Ministry of Justice, shows whether the applicant has been convicted of any crimes and the articles of law involved.
A similar document is issued by the Court (Opcinski Sud) of the district in which the applicant last resided, and shows whether the applicant is currently under investigation in any criminal matter. Visa applicants are required to obtain both documents.

It is the applicants responsibility to contact the relevant authorities to obtain the necessary police certificates or clearances. Each countrys procedures are different. Applicants may have to apply to more than one level of government or more than one agency - municipal, provincial, state, federal and the police, courts or similar governmental agencies for the police certificate. Issuing Criminal Record Certificates
Certificates from the criminal record are issued in the Department for Criminal Records, Subsection for Administrative Tasks, Zagreb, Ulica grada Vukovara 49.
The office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
Certification of documents for use abroad
Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 in the Ministry of Justice, ulica grada Vukovara 49, Zagreb.
Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
A police clearance certificate is a copy of your criminal record or a declaration of the absence of any criminal record. Police clearance certificates are different in each country and territory and may be called police certificates, good conduct certificates, judicial record extracts, pcc, etc. They are issued by police authorities or government departments and used by Citizenship and Immigration to prevent individuals who possess a risk to Country's security from entering the country.

Request for Removal or Rehabilitation from the Criminal Record:
The expungement of conviction from the criminal record is performed pursuant to the Article19 of the Law on Legal Consequences of Conviction, Rehabilitation and Criminal Records (Official Gazette 143/12).
You can submit a claim for the expungement of conviction or rehabilitation from the criminal record via mail or personally to the Ministry of Justice, Criminal Law Directorate, Department for Criminal Record, Ulica grada Vukovara 49.
In the claim, it is neccessary to enlist the personal data (name, surname, name of the father, name of the mother, personal identification number (OIB), or the number of the passport or ID).
The claim must have a signature, and it is necessary to enclose the copy of the passport or ID.
