ProcedureEdit

1.To obtain the voters card, an applicant must be registered on the electoral roll. Applicant can register at the municipality level, rural community level, division level or at determined diplomatic or consular representation;

2.At the chosen registration point, the applicant presents required documents and all the required information is captured by the registration officer;

3.Upon successful registration, an applicant is given a confirmation of registration;

4.Thereafter the registration process, a list of voters is displayed at every registration point for voters to verify their information and to also ensure that each and every person who registered is on the list;

5.When the lists of voters are verified, the Voters Card is issued to all approved voters on the list and in order for a person to receive his / her card, he / she must present proper identification.

6.When a list of voters is displayed, registered voters in the list of the electoral district are expected to submit any objections of registrations of particular persons for instance the deceased and non residents in a given community. In this case if any objection is submitted ant the commission finds right, it has the right to cancel registration of such an individual improperly registered.

1.Applicant must meet the age requirements;

2.Be a citizen of Ivory Coast;

3.Apply in person

4.Applicants must know that registration for national identification cards and voters cards run concurrently;

5.Citizens sixteen (16) years but not yet eighteen (18) may be registered but are not issued with the voters card;

6.When the voters card is issued, applicants must know that it is personal and cannot be transferred to another person;

7.Applicants are advised to keep their cards safe and protect them from anything that may destroy it;

8.Applicants must appear in person to receive their voters cards;

9.Nationals living abroad can register at any Ivorian diplomatic or consular representation;

10.The electoral voters register is updated annually in order to insure that mutations are intervened;

11.Applicants are advised not to register in more than one constituency or on several electoral lists in the same constituency

Need for the DocumentEdit

An Ivorian voters card is issued to citizens of Cote dIvoire to enable them participate in the election processes by casting their voters. Anyone without the card cannot cast his or her vote when the election period comes. The Ivorian electoral commission knows as la Commission Electorale Indpendante (CEI) (Independent Electoral Commission) in conjunction with the National Identification Office (ONI) is responsible for the issuance of the voters card in Cote dIvoire.



Information which might helpEdit

The following are some of the persons who may not obtain an Ivorian voters card:

  • Non citizens
  • Any person who has been sentenced for committing crime;
  • In cases where the commission finds omissions and irregularities, it may decide to forward case to court.
  • After the process of distributing cards, the un collected cards are returned to the Commission on Elections



Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

  • The voters card proves nationality of a person;
  • It can be used as an identification / introductory document as it gives brief information about her holder;
  • Vital data is collected and used by government in its planning processes;
