Applying process in Costa Rica for citizen and non citizens.
- a. Apply In-Person
- Police Clearance Certificate can be applied at Office of Archives and Judicial Registry “Oficina de Archivo y Registro Judicial’’.

- Go to the respective office. Don’t forget to take the required copy of documents along with originals to the office.
- Please follow as per authorities guidelines and submit the completed application along with documents. Applicant should pay for any charges if required as advised.
- This application will be processed by respective department.
- The certificate can be collected from the office where applicant applied in-person or will be delivered through mail upon notification or issued as per norms.

- b. Apply Online - Costa Rica Police Clearance Certificate Online with Images
- To Obtain a Police Clearance Certificate, The applicant has to use the following link – link
- The applicant has to click the “Procedure Online”.
- In the next screen, the applicant has to select the “Application Crime Sheet” option.
- Now select the information for personal request options from the following list.
- The applicant has to enter all the information in the application form and click “Aceptar”.
- Also, upload the necessary documents which are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Pay the required amount fee in online mode.
- Once completed, click the “Submit” button.
- The concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
- The applicant has to visit the office to get the clearance certificate.
- This entire process can be completed within 15 - 20 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
Applying process in overseas for citizen and non citizens.
- a. Apply at embassy or consulate
- Applicant should write a requisition for police clearance certificate at their nearest embassy or consulate.

- After internal processing, consulate will send your letter to the Judicial Register of the Supreme Court in San Jose, where your request will be processed. Once the certificate is generated, applicant gets notification.
- Applicant authorized representative can pick-up certificate.
- Note: If you don’t have someone in Costa Rica who can pick up your document, you may contact your Embassy/Consulate for help
- Representative should carry the following while collecting certificate.
- Written authorization
- ID card or passport.

- A copy of your passport while living in Costa Rica.

EligibilityEdit
- Applicant with valid passport and a valid address proof.
- Age: 16 years and above. In case of minors, the application must be submitted by the parent exercising parental authority, if the minor has not turned 16 years.
- The current address of the applicant must be same as in the passport and other supporting documents.
- Applicants who are in need of residential status, employment or long term visa or for immigration to a foreign nation.

The Poder Judicial, Direccin Ejecutiva, Registro Judicial issues a document indicating previous convictions.
For Certifications Criminal Records internationally (Sheet Crime), the Directorate received by the management this document, which certifies the signature of the Chief Court Register are subsequently submitted to the Secretariat of the Court, in order to be certified signature or Deputy Director as the case and finally returned to management.

Need for the DocumentEdit
A police clearance certificate is a copy of your criminal record or a declaration of the absence of any criminal record. Police clearance certificates are different in each country and territory and may be called police certificates, good conduct certificates, judicial record extracts, pcc, etc. They are issued by police authorities or government departments and used by Citizenship and Immigration to prevent individuals who possess a risk to Country's security from entering the country.
Costa Rican police certificates may be obtained only through an official request. Instructions and the required letter of request are available from the Embassy's consular section.

Requirements for Resident/Non Resident-
- Letter including full name/alias, full names of parents, date and place of birth.
- Passport or identification number.
It is the applicants responsibility to contact the relevant authorities to obtain the necessary police certificates or clearances. Each countrys procedures are different. Applicants may have to apply to more than one level of government or more than one agency -- municipal, provincial, state, federal and the police, courts or similar governmental agencies for the police certificate.
Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
If you want to immigrate to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, UK, USA, etc., you and your dependants may have to provide police certificates when you submit your application for permanent residence. Visa offices may also request certificates from students and temporary foreign workers.

The police or judicial authority responsible for issuing a police certificate or clearance may require a processing fee and additional documentation such as photographs, fingerprints or details of the applicants addresses and periods of residence in that country. In some cases the photos or proof of identity will need to be notarized.
In some cases, persons applying for temporary residence (workers, students, visitors) may also be required to provide a police certificate. As well, persons who have lived in a country for less than six months may also be required to provide a police certificate.
