ProcedureEdit

  • Applicant is obligated to go through procedure by himself/herself.
  • Fill in the Foreigner's Visa and Resident Permit Application Form, with the official seal of your news agency and a recent 2-inch passport photo, full-face, with a light blue background.
  • Present the Press Card (R) issued by the Information Department.
  • Present Health Certification issued by the inspection & quarantine agency (for those over 18 years old and applying for the Resident Permits for the first time).

Required DocumentsEdit

  • Valid passports and visa;
  • Master copy and photocopy of the "Employee's card" of the representative office of foreign enterprises in China, issued by the Administrative Bodies for Industry and Commerce;
  • Master copy and photocopy of the "Employment Certificate", issued by Beijing Bureau of Labor and Social Security;
  • "Health Certificate" issued by Beijing Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Bureau;
  • Two recently taken, half-length bareheaded and full-faced photos of 2 inch size (either color or black-white).

Those applicants who work in Beijing for less than 1 year should apply for temporary residence permit, without presenting "Health Certificate".

InstructionsEdit

If you intend to stay in China longer than 180 days, Chinas immigration rules mean you will need to obtain a Residence Permit. Every foreigner living in China has to register with the Public Security Bureau (PSB) via your local police station on arrival. for tourists, hotels normally complete the registration process for you.

Need for the DocumentEdit

Within one month of arrival in China, all visitors must register with their nearest PSB office and obtain a residence certificate - known as a hukou or waiguoren juliuzheng.
This hukou allows the holder to reside in a particular area. It does not give permission to work nor to stay indefinitely.

Attention:
The following passengers may get such punishments as being denied boarding or entry, or being fined, etc.

  • Those coming to China before a visa is completed (except when a waiver is obtained);
  • Those coming to China with an expired visa;
  • Those staying in China with the visa exceeding the staying period;
  • Those whose passport expires during their stay in China. (Regardless of the validity of the staying period of the visa)

Resident permit holders should also be aware that you are required to re-register each time you return from a trip abroad.
If you need to change or extend your visa, renew your residence permit or if you have had a baby, you will need to contact the local Public Security Bureau office for the area where you live.
