China - Obtain a Marriage Certificate
ProcedureEdit
- After the establishment of the new marriage law, it now takes the marriage registration office about an hour or so to review the submitted documents and approve of the application.
- Head to the Marriage Registration Office and apply for your marriage license. Its important to note that a Chinese national must get married wherever his or her hukou was issued, so youll need to find out where the appropriate marriage office is based on your partners hukou.
- The Beijing Marriage Registration Office is at 20 Gongti Donglu. Take your certificate of marriageability, three formal pictures of you and your loved one together, your IDs, and your Chinese partners hukou, and all thats left is to answer a few questions and fill out a few forms at the marriage office. Marriage licenses are typically issued on the same day, so you should have your marriage license in hand when you leave the office.
- Once the marriage registration office approves of the application and registers the marriage, it will issue a marriage certificate to be picked up by the couple.

Need for the DocumentEdit
This is handled by municipal Civil Affairs Bureau (Minzheng Ju ???). Normally, you will have to go to the office in the jurisdiction in which the Chinese partner is registered on her or his hukou (??) though there are a few reports that couples have been able to marry in an office local to where the Chinese partner is living. It is in the nature of the Chinese system that there can be such variations in the implementation of the rules, so it is always worth checking on procedures when you visit to collect an application form.
