Need for the DocumentEdit
China rail pass was first issued in 2013. This pass is different from the traditional train tickets. It is a prepaid card which can be used to take bullet trains running between Beijing and Tianjin, Shanghai and Hangzhou, Shanghai and Nanjing, Guangzhou and Zhuhai, Haikou and Sanya. No discount is offered when travelling with the pass, but considering Chinas population, it saves time of waiting in lines to buy a paper ticket.
The pass has two types; gold and silver.
Information which might helpEdit
No one else can use your card since it carries your personal information.
How do you know your seat number if you use the pass? Currently, only passengers taking the intercity trains between Beijing and Tianjin will get their seat number before boarding. They can swipe the card on a self-service queuing machine and get a note which has a departure date and time, train number, seat number and the number of the pass. Other routes dont have the self-queuing machine, so passengers will not know their seat number until they get into the carriage. Usually, 10-20 seats in carriage No. 6 are reserved for pass holders, they can only seat in the reserved zone. If the reserved seats are taken, pass holders can take other seats with the permission of conductors. If all seats are occupied, pass holders will have to stand.
Change, refund or loss of the pass :
Passengers can have their rail pass changed or refunded at the designated ticket windows in railway stations. Passenger can cancel the seat if did not get onboard, and cancellation should be made within 30 minutes after the departure time. CNY20 is charged for refunding the pass. If you lose the pass, you can buy a new card but money in the lost one is not refunded. CNY10 is charged for a new card.
The paper ticket can be printed out at designated ticket windows within 31 days after the trip. Each ticket can be printed out once.
