- Transfer of vehicle registration from one state to another state happens whenever the vehicle is sold to a person in another state and if the owner himself settles in a new state.
- The main document for this purpose is NOC from the home state RTO. (Please check with local RTO whether NOC is required before processing)
- In order to transfer vehicle from another state, Applicant has to apply and get NOC as stated above from their home state RTO
- With the NOC is in hand the applicant can approach the RTO for his area to do this procedure. Please follow our “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page to get details of the RTO offices.
- Make sure you have completed application form Form-27. Application form can be obtained from the following link : Form
- Also make sure you have all the necessary documents to process the application
- Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that should be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
- Present the completed application forms along with documents in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
- Pencil tracing of engine chassis number is the activity to record the chassis number against the registration number in the RTO register
- Authorities will inspect the vehicle and announce the registration number
- After necessary verification, the applicant is given a token of receipt for the period till he receives the RC
- The Vehicle Registration Certificate is issued to the applicant within one month

- Application in Form-27 (in duplicate if it is with HP) : Form 27
- NOC. (if required)
- Police certificate (That the vehicle is not a stolen one)
- The certificate of registration
- The certificate of insurance,
- The certificate of pollution under control
- PAN card in case of 4-wheeler
- The appropriate fee as specified in rule 81.
- 2 Photograph of the applicant with vehicle clearly showing number plate
- Pollution under control certificate
- Proof of address (any one of the following):

- Pencil traced “Chassis Number” is the primary detail for applying
- Aadhaar card
- Passport size photo
- No objection certificate from the Financier if the vehicle held with Hire Purchase
- Valid Tax receipt
- Affidavit sworn by the applicant before an Executive or First Class Judicial
- Proof of address (any one of the following):

ValidityEdit
- In case of non-transport vehicles like two wheelers and cars, the registration certificate is valid for 15 years from the date of first registration and it is renewed after every five subsequent years.
- In case of transport vehicles like goods and passenger carriers the registration certificate is valid till certificate of fitness is valid.

In case of vehicle registered outside the state, the transferor (seller) should report the fact of transfer within 45 days of the transfer to the concerned registering authority.
