Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for a Domicile Certificate, the applicant has to approach the SDM office. Please tap on the following link to find contact details: link.
  2. Get the relevant application form from the authorities and fill the form with valid details appropriately.
  3. Make sure that you have all the proper documents mentioned in the “Required documents” section below.
  4. Submit the form along with the required documents to the authorities.
  5. Now collect the acknowledgement slip from the authorities.
  6. After the verification process, the applicant will receive a certificate of the domicile in a stipulated period of time.



Apply Online:

  1. The applicant has to visit the homepage of the e-District portal for applying for the domicile certificate: portal.
  2. In case of a new applicant of Chandigarh e-District portal, the applicant has to register in the portal to avail all the certificate services. Then click on the option Citizen Login for the New User Registration.
  3. Upon clicking the option, the citizen's registration page will be displayed, provide the required details and click on the register button.
  4. After providing all the details, click on the save button. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered. #Then enter the same in the place given and click on the “Active” account button.
  5. Once the account has been activated, login to the e-District portal using your user id and user password.
  6. Provide the details asked for Registration and to obtain the domicile certificate.
  7. After providing all the mandatory details, click on the “submit” button.
  8. Domicile Certificate will be issued after the verification with the actual records of the concerned department.
  9. Once the domicile application has successfully submitted, an acknowledgement receipt with an application number will be displayed.
  10. Take a print of this receipt. Keep it safe for future reference.



Apply through Centres:

  1. To apply through centres, the applicant has to visit the respective “CSC” centre. Please tap on the following link to locate the centre according to the respective district: link.
  2. Make sure to have the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
  4. The operator will process the application online.
  5. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement.
  6. An inspection will be held by the authorities.
  7. The status, viz. Approval or Rejection if any, will be conveyed to the applicant through an SMS.
  8. If approved, the certificate will be hand delivered or sent through post to the address mentioned while applying or issued in a stipulated period of time.

  • Self declaration from the applicant.
  • Residential Proof: Residential Certificate issued by Local administration office/ Aadhar card / Passport / Driving License / Ration Card / Govt. Id card / Defence ID Card / PAN Card.
  • Age proof (birth certificate / school certificate)
  • Applicant passport size photograph.
  • 2 different Gazette Officers certification (as per requirement)
  • Education records duly signed
  • Aadhaar card
  • Land revenue receipt (in case of farmer if available).
  • Affix stamp as advised by authorities if required.

  • The following are the eligibility criteria to obtain a local certificate from the State Government:
    • Any person who is a resident of the state.
    • Women not initially belonging to the state, but married to a permanent resident of the state.

The validity period of this certificate has been enhanced to life long as per GO (provided the individual residence is not changed)

The prescribed application forms available from the local authorities, i.e. the Sub-Divisional Magistrate/Tehsildars office/Revenue Department/District Collectors Office, or any other authority as specified in the State/UT of your residence.

Note

Domicile Certificate can be made only in one State/UT. Obtaining Domicile Certificate from more than one State/UT is an offence.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • A Domicile/Residence Certificate is generally issued to prove that the person bearing the Certificate is a Domicile/Resident of the State/UT by which the Certificate is being issued. This Certificate is required as proof of residence to avail Domicile/Resident Quotas in educational institutions and in the Government Service, as also in case of jobs where local residents are preferred.
