Chandigarh - How to Obtain Electricity Connection

- To obtain electricity connection for their premises, one has to apply at the respective electricity board/company office of their respective area.
- The Local Distribution of electricity in Chandigarh was taken over by the Chandigarh Administration. It is responsible for Transmission and Distribution of power supply up to consumer’s door-step for making quality and continuous power supply available to each and every resident.
Apply In-Person:
- Go to your area local Electricity office personally and consult with the authority for your need. They will suggest you with the correct main/division office to contact and apply for Electricity (EB) connection.
- Please use the below link to get contact details of respective sub-divisional office. : Contact link
- Go to the respective office (Sub division office) and meet the respective authority with the available documents. On their advice, collect the form and initiate the process to apply.
- Applicant shall obtain the form from the respective office (please pay for the form if required) Or can download the form from the following link: Low tension Service link Or High/ Extra-High tension Service link. Use the appropriate form.
- Once the application is filled, then submit it along with required document to the concerned Consumer Clerk (CC)/ (RA) for further processing. (must include licensed electrical contractor intended to do wiring)
- Authorities will verify the submitted documents, if all the documents are in place then authorities will advise the customer to pay the fee for this procedure.
- Once the payment is made, a receipt will be issued to the applicant including registration number and application number. Keep it safe for future reference.
- The applicant shall keep the original receipt(s) with him /her and leave the case file with the cashier
- Demand Notice shall be issued. The license can ask for the original documents from the applicant, if required for verification.
- An agreement in the prescribed format shall be executed on the stamp paper of Rs 5/- by the applicant , for getting a new connection and for change in the agreed parameters like contract demand etc. In case of single phase domestic and nondomestic consumers, the application form itself shall be treated as agreement.
- This application will be subjected for internal processing and a technician will inspect the premises on a scheduled date at the presence of applicant.
- At the end of the survey, technician will mark the place for meter to be fixed and also entry of supply mains and other equipment to be fixed. He will also fill the survey report.
- If the report shows feasible condition to provide supply, then applicant gets intimation about the sanction.
- In case applicant fails to comply within a respective period as per norms from the date of power sanction, the power sanction as well as registration shall stand cancelled.
- If the report shows non feasibility, applicant will be asked to bear the extra cost for providing viable condition as advised by department.
- Now approach the office to get the charges for service line, initial security deposit, cost of metre/metering equipment etc.,. Make appropriate payment and obtain the receipt along with application number.
- Once all the above said procedures are over and complete, the electricity department/company will issue the work order.
- Thereupon the concerned Junior Engineer/Assistant Engineer will arrange to provide the power supply.
- Pole will be installed, Applicant has to submit the Test report with the help of licensed electrical contractor followed by provision of Electrical connection.
- Note :
- High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) are two different supply categories

- Proof of ownership (Sale deed, katha, succession certificate, sanctioned plan from local authority.)
- Indemnity Bond as per format supplied by the electricity company, if you are not the owner of the premises
- No objection certificate (NOC) from the owner(If the applicant is tenant or lessee)
- Proof of permanent residential address (Ration card, PAN, telephone Bill, Insurance policy bond, voters identity card etc.)
- Clearances for establishment from the Pollution Control Board concerned where applicable .( residential / residential-cum-commercial premises of more than 100 flats)
- Self- certification for electrical installation of the premises of the consumer for which new connection is being applied for or the test results duly signed by the licensed Electrical Contractor
- Requisite Earnest Money as advised
- Proof of occupation or ownership of a premises through any one of the documents (Passport / Voter Identity Card / Rent Bill / Telephone Bill / Municipal or any other Tax Bill / Ration Card / Certificate from Panchayat)
- The detailed list of electrical equipment’s with number and corresponding wattages
- For LV & MV consumers, a sketch of new line required for service connection showing the premises from existing LV & MV line is required to be submitted by the intending consumer. (licensed electrical contractor will be helpful)
- NOC from local administration (assessment and collection department - no due & litigation free)
- NOC from respective department for digging (if applicable)
- Test Certificate of metering equipment, if consumer supplies the same.
- Land Paper
- Aadhar Card
- Photograph of the applicant
- Contact number
- Consents / Authorizations / Approvals wherever applicable.
- Service Connection Agreement, if applicable.
- Consent of the owner of the property if the proposed service line has to pass through the property of some other persons
- Note:
- All original and copy of original with self attestation as advised by respective authorities to submit as per requirement.
- Apart from the above documents authorities may ask to submit additional information or documents. Please provide them for processing.

- The lawful owner / occupier of premises can apply for the new electricity connection.
- The applicant should apply in the respective form at the respective office
- After load survey, he/she will be given quotation for payment of charges which includes Service connection charges , Service Line Charges, Security deposit etc.
- After payment of above charges the consumer will submit a Test report from the Licensed electrical contractor for the wiring.
- The service connection will be released as per the chronological order.
