Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for Vehicle Fitness certificate (FC) in Chandigarh the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to. Please follow our “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page to get details of the RTO offices.
  2. Also make sure you have all the necessary documents to process the application
  3. The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying for this procedure
  4. Make sure you have completed application form CFA.
  5. Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices
  6. The applicant should bring in their vehicle for inspection.
  7. Present the completed application forms in the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.

Apply Online:

  1. To apply for vehicle fitness certificate (FC), the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
  2. In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
  3. The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
  4. Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
  5. The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
  6. Please follow the steps to complete the application.



Apply through Centres:

  1. To apply through centres, the applicant has to visit the respective “CSC” centre. Please tap on the following link to locate the centre according to the respective district: link.
  2. Make sure to have the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
  4. The operator will process the application online.
  5. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement.
  6. An inspection will be held to check the vehicle.
  7. The status, viz. Approval or Rejection if any, will be conveyed to the applicant through an SMS.
  8. If verified, the certificate will be hand delivered or sent through post to the address mentioned while applying in a stipulated period of time.

ValidityEdit

  • In case of Private vehicles the fitness certificates is valid for 15 years and there after renewed at every 5 years
  • In case of Transport Vehicles the fitness certificate is issued for a new vehicle for 2 years and subsequently renewed every year

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • The registration of vehicle is treated as valid only if the vehicle has valid certificate of fitness. Fitness certificate for a vehicle in Chandigarh is required to renew the current status of the vehicle
  • The fitness is checked and certified by the Registering Authority
  • Fitness certificate is issued to check the pollution caused by the emission of smoke from the vehicles, to maintain the vehicle in proper condition and to avoid accidents
