ProcedureEdit

1.Start by gathering information about the market, the goods / services to be offered for sale in that market, and the past, present and potential customers for the product or service. Analyze the gathered information and interpret it. Find out the characteristics, spending habits and needs of the target market (Chad).

2.In the home country, the export should find out the rules and regulations governing exportation and in Chad find out what is required to into goods.

3.Prepare all required documents; and there after clear goods in home country and transport them to Chad;

4.Upon arrival in Chad, declare goods and clear then at the customs department in Chad; and also declare and make clearance at the port of entry. At this stage, at the customs department, the exporter must ensure that customs clearance and technical control are done and at the entry port, there is port / terminal handling; and at both destinations (customs and entry port), payments must be made where necessary;

5.After clearing, goods can now be transported from port to ware house (in Chad).

A person with all requirements for importation in to Chad can import at any time.



FeesEdit

1.Importers pay approximately US$9,025. This fee is broken down below:

  • Documents preparation US$1,500
  • Customs clearance and technical control US$525
  • Ports and terminal handling US$500
  • Inland transportation and handling US$6,500

2.The tariff rates vary basing is on what is being imported for instance:-

  • Yam range between 5% 30%
  • Woven Fabric range between 10% 30%
  • Knit Fabric range between 10% 30%
  • Non Woven Fabric 10%
  • Industrial Fabric range between 5% 30%
  • Apparel 30%
  • Home Furnishings including: bed, bath, kitchen linens, etc. range between 10% 30%
  • Carpet 30%
  • Footwear range between 20% 30%
  • Travel Goods 30%

3.Import tax on new vehicles is determined basing on the make, model, year and value of the vehicle. It may go up to 60 percent of CIF

The time varies basing on what is being imported and the requirements. Importation may go for up to ninety eight (98) days or more.

1.Be aware of restricted and prohibited goods

2.Ensure that goods to be imported meet the quality and quantity standard in chard;

3.Be aware of all government regulations and clearance / custom rules and duty taxes;

4.Be informed about goods that require import permits in order to be imported into the country;

5.Obtain all required documents before importing into Chad;

6.Ensure that after inspection, a certificate (Clean Report Finding CRF) is issued;

7.Without a certificate of clean report finding, goods shall not be cleared through the customs upon arrival in Chad;

8.Animals should be vaccinated before being imported into Chad;

9.Goods are checked by customs agencies upon arrival in Chad;

10.Used household goods and personal effects may be imported duty free, as long as an importer has proof that they have been in his / her possession for a minimum of six months;

11.Be aware of good that require authorization and importation permits;

12.Used vehicles are exempt from duty;

13.Vehicles more than three years old are prohibited from being imported;

14.Obtain a certificate of vaccination for rabies if importing pet animals;

15.A health certificate for imported pet animals must be fourteen (14) days before arrival into Chad.

Need for the DocumentEdit

Importing good involves entering goods / services in to a given country from another. Importation in Chad involves entering goods from foreign countries into Chad. It is important to note that the Chadian legislation on the importation of goods is based on CEMAC Customs Code. The government of Chad through its customs department manages the processes of importation into the country.

1.A male importer eighteen (18) years and above may import 400 cigarettes, 125 cigars or 500 grammes of tobacco freely

2.A female importer eighteen (18) years may only import 400 cigarettes freely;

3.3 bottles of wine and 1 bottle of spirits may also be imported freely;

4.Importation Live Animals, Guns, bullets and Explosives, Illegal Drugs and Pornographic materials is prohibited;

5.Importers of vehicles should ensure that the original Bill of Lading contains the vehicles engine number , chassis number, year of manufacture, cubic capacity, brand and model
