Procedure

For a nurse/midwife to practice in Chad he or she should be registered and licensed with the Ministry of Public Health of Chad and the National Solidarity, Registry Office. It is the responsibility of the Ministry to ensure that all nurses/midwifery that are within its jurisdiction meet a certain level of competence before starting their practice. Thus, licensing examination and clinical placement are administered to the health practitioner to ascertain that the applicant meets all qualifications before being registered and issued a practicing license.

Apply In Person:
Registration for Student (Locally Trained Nurse)

1. Upon passing the Nigeria Nurses and Midwives Ministry National Examination, successful candidates are required to apply for registration and licensing after the release of the results to be entered into the Ministry Nursing/midwife roll/register is required to show that they have attained the required competency by Ministry standards. Applicants should refer to the “Eligibility” section of this page to confirm eligibility and contact the Ministry to begin the registration process.
2. Applicants collect all relevant application forms to be completed for Registration and Licensing to Practice Nursing/midwife with respect to the requirement from the relevant department.
3. Carefully complete the forms with appropriate information under relevant sections. But don’t forget to attest the forms with your signature once completed.
4. Once completed, attach all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section before submitting the complete registration dossier to the Ministry Registry office. Don’t forget to make the stipulated payment as directed by the officials.
5. Upon receipt of the complete registration dossier, the Registrar will check the documents for completeness and authenticity. If everything is in the order he shall forward all applications to the department responsible for examination and verification processes.
6. Once the verification and validation processes are over and if the application is found sufficient, it will be approved and the officials will proceed to take the required steps.
7. The applicant will be notified to collect his /her Log Book for rotation, Code for National Service registration, and provisional Practicing license via text or phone call. One is required to bring proof of identification when collecting the documents.
8. Upon successful completion of the required clinical placement, candidates will be eligible to register fully as a professional medical practitioner (midwifery /Nurse) and will be required to surrender the Provisional License and submit the Log Book for recording to the Ministry Registry Office.
9. The registrar shall document candidates’ records, a list of simulated patients, a list of assessment centers, a list of assessors, a list of supervisors, a list of invigilators, a scoring sheet, and other relevant documents.
10. Once the verification and validation processes are over and if the application is found sufficient, it will be approved and a senior registration and licensing officer will proceed to take the required steps to fully Register the beneficiary as per the category applied for and award the applicant with the registration certificate and the practicing license.
11. The applicant will be notified to collect his Registration Certificates, logbook, and Practicing license via text or phone call. One is required to bring proof of identification when collecting the documents.

Registration of Foreign-Trained Nurses and Midwives

1. Where the applicant has studied or worked abroad (Citizen/ foreigner) and wishes to be entered into the Ministry Nursing/midwife roll/register he/she is required to show that they have attained the required competency by Ministry standards. Applicants should refer to the “Eligibility” section of this page to confirm eligibility and contact the Ministry to begin the registration process.
2. Upon receipt of the complete registration dossier as listed under the “Required Documents” section below, the Registrar will check the documents for completeness and authenticity. If everything is in the order he shall forward all applications to the department responsible. which shall then verify the applicant's qualifications with the relevant training school and board of nursing/midwifery from the respective country.
3. Please note; the application shall also be accompanied by all applicable fees and should be deposited as prescribed and proof of payment shared with the Ministry office.
4. Upon being satisfied with the information provided by the respective institution, candidates will be shortlisted and invited for an oral interview by the Registration and Licensing Committee. Based on the results of the oral interview, successful candidates may be invited to sit a written exam or proceed for a clinical placement to acquaint themselves with healthcare systems in Chad for a period to be determined.
5. The candidates will be registered as temporary health professionals and issued Registration Certificates, logbooks, and Practicing licenses. One is required to bring proof of identification when collecting the documents.

Eligibility

Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible:

• To be of good reputation and commendable conduct.
• To have never been sentenced in a felony or misdemeanor (for a custodial penalty in a crime involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, unless rehabilitated in either case). In short, not to have a criminal record.
• To have attained one of the following academic degrees:
• A Bachelor of Science in Nursing from one of Chad’s high institutes, or an equivalent degree elsewhere than in Chad, which the Ministry recognizes as equivalent to the qualification by examination required by the ministry.
• A Diploma from a healthcare institute affiliated with the Ministry of Health (nursing division) or an equivalent degree.

Fees

• Please consult with the Ministry of Public Health of Chad and the National Solidarity Office.

Validity

• The validity of the registration certificate shall be mentioned on the document; while the practice license shall be subjected to renewal and payment of an annual practice fee as may be prescribed by the Ministry Office, this should be submitted on time before the lapse of the current practice license, to allow enough time for the renewal due process to be completed.
