  1. Fill in the application form.
  2. Sign the application form and submit along with all other required documents.
  3. Pay the appropriate fee.

Obtaining the license for the first time and examination:

  • Completed application form (available at DGTR branches and online)
  • Medical certificate
  • Certificate of Criminal Record
  • Photocopy of identity card or passport
  • One passport size photograph


Renewal:

  • Completed application form (available at DGTR branches and online)
  • Medical certificate
  • Photocopy of identity card or passport
  • One passport size photograph
  • Expired driver's license


Duplicate copy of the driver's license:

  • Completed application form (available at DGTR branches and online)
  • Photocopy of identity card or passport
  • One passport size photograph
  • Statement from Police stating that the license is not seized.


Replacement of license due to damage:

  • Completed application form (available at DGTR branches and online)
  • Photocopy of identity card or passport
  • One passport size photograph
  • Driving license to be replaced.


Change of address:

  • Completed application form (available at DGTR branches and online)
  • Photocopy of identity card or passport
  • One passport size photograph
  • The driving license.


Exchange of foreign driving license:

  • Completed application form (available at DGTR branches and online)
  • Driving license issued abroad
  • One passport size photograph
  • Medical certificate
  • Photocopy of ID card or residence card, for foreigners, also present the original document.

EligibilityEdit

For citizens or foreigners wishing to operate the following types of vehicles:

  • Motorcycles with cylinder capacity of less than 50 cm3: 16 years and up
  • Motorcycles with cylinder capacity exceeding 50 cm3: 18 years and up
  • Light Vehicles: 18 years and up
  • Heavy duty motors: 21 years and up

Obtaining the license for the first time:

  • After passing exams - issuance fee: 500 ECV


Duplicate copy of the driver's license:

  • Application : 1250 ECV
  • Issuance fee: 500 ECV


Renewal:

  • Application : 1250 ECV
  • Issuance fee: 500 ECV


Replacement of license:

  • Application : 1250 ECV
  • Issuance fee: 500 ECV


Change of address:

  • Application : 1250 ECV
  • Issuance fee: 500 ECV


Exchange of foreign driving license:

  • Application : 2500 ECV
  • Issuance fee: 500 ECV



ValidityEdit

Validity of the license will depend on the result of the medical or psychometric examination the license holder need to go through. Validity of the license will also depend on the following:

  • Holders of categories A, B and E + B must renew their license after the age of 65 and 70. Beginning at the age of 70, the license will need to be renewed every two years.
  • Holders of category C licenses must renew their licenses for the first time at the age of 60. For category D license holders renewal of the license for the first time will be when they turn 55 years old. For categories E + C e E+ D license holders, renewal of the license will begin at the age 50. Starting at the age 65, drivers who holds licenses under these categories must renew their license every two years.

According to Rule 122 of the Highway Code, driving licenses can only be issued to those who meet the following requirements:

  • Possess the minimum age requirement in the category being applied for.
  • Physically, mentally and psychologically fit
  • Resides in the national territory
  • Not banned or disqualified to obtain a license
  • Passed the driving test
  • Knows hot to read and write
