Need for the DocumentEdit

A tax identification number (NIF) is a number that identifies the citizen to the Tax Administration. NIF are issued to both natural and legal entities.

It is mandatory to mention the principal taxpayer's or its representative (in some cases) tax identification number (NIF) in all transactions with the taxing authorities.

Why you need a tax identification number (NIF):

  • Without prejudice to the penalties set out in tax legislation, documents you file with tax authorities will be rejected or considered as not submitted within the tax administration services elements or documents that do not mention the NIF, when it should be mentioned.
  • Public offices and, in general, any other public entities, including the authorities, services and notarial records, shall, in fulfilling their obligations assigned to them by the tax law requires taxpayers to state their tax identification number (NIF).
  • Income subject to tax from payments by withholding, even if exempt, may not be paid or made available to holders by the authorities to levy, but those who possess a tax identification number (NIF).
