Marriage in Cape Verde
- To apply, make the approprite declaration of your intention to be married.
- Submit all necessary documents, and provide all needed information like, when, where and how you wish to be married.
- An additional fee is required to be paid if the marriage ceremony will be held outside the town's civic hall.
Getting married abroad
- For couples who would like to be married abroad, both should be able to present their birth certificates and Certificate of Capacity to Marry issued by the Central Registry, to the competent authorities abroad.
- For those who are already married abroad, whether its between Cape Verdeans or foreigners who has acquired citizenship in Cape Verde shall be registered in the Central Registry.
Note: For those who intends to be married abroad, please check which documents you need to submit in the country where you would like to be married.
Foreign citizens getting married in Cape Verde
- The process starts with the presentation of a certificate issued by the competent authority of their country
- If it is not possible for the certificate to be submitted, verification of matrimonial capacity is taken through a process organized by the Central Registry and decided by the head of the RNI.

- Birth Certificate authenticated at the Embassy or Consulate of the country of origin
- Certificate of Capacity to Marry, issued by the Central Records after order of the Director General in the country of origin, duly authenticated by the embassy or consulate of the home country or issued by the Directorate General of Registries and Notaries

The application process to get married begins in the offices of civil status, with the manifestation of the couple of their voluntary intention to be married.
Those who plan to get married should declare must declare their intention personally or through an attorney, a Registrar of Civil Registration Competent (at the Town hall of one of the residences of the bride and groom) or the equivalent. Declaration may also be filed in Cape Verde diplomatic and consular representations abroad, which is important to begin the process of publications.
In deciding on how to be married, the bride and groom may choose to do it civilly, or in a Catholic religious order form. The couple must indicate the place where they wish to married.
