Apply In Person:

  1. To Get a Permit or License for Veterinary Services, the applicant has to approach the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association link
  2. The applicant needs to have a degree from an accredited veterinary school. In Canada, there are only five accredited veterinary colleges, including the University of Guelph, the University of Montreal, the University of Prince Edward Island, the University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Calgary.
  3. For a veterinary license, the applicant has to pass the exam in the National Examining Board (NEB).
  4. Once the applicant has passed the national veterinary licensing exam, the applicant will need to apply for a license from the veterinary regulatory body in the province or territory where the applicant intends to practice.
  5. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  6. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  7. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  8. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  9. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  10. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  11. As a veterinarian, the applicant will need to obtain liability insurance to protect themselves against any malpractice claims that may arise from his/her practice.
  12. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  13. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  14. Then the application will be processed further.
  15. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  16. The applicant gets the license for Veterinary Services from the office.
  17. This entire process can be completed within 1 or 2 months or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
