Apply In Person:

  1. To Apply for Veterinary License, the applicant has to approach the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association link
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in English or French, the official language of Canada. You may need to provide proof of language proficiency through standardized tests such as the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP).
  3. Pass the National Examining Board (NEB) examinations, which consist of two parts: the Basic and Clinical Sciences Examination and the Clinical Proficiency Examination. These examinations assess your knowledge and clinical skills in veterinary medicine.
  4. Complete a period of practical experience, which may involve an internship or residency program to gain hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of licensed veterinarians. The duration of practical experience may vary depending on the province or territory.
  5. Provide evidence of good characters and professional conduct, such as letters of reference or a declaration of good standing from previous veterinary licensing authorities or employers.
  6. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  8. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  9. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  10. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  11. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  12. As a veterinarian, the applicant will need to obtain liability insurance to protect themselves against any malpractice claims that may arise from his/her practice.
  13. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  14. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  15. Then the application will be processed further.
  16. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  17. The applicant may be required to attend an interview with the veterinary regulatory authority or their representatives to assess their suitability for licensure.
  18. Once licensed, the applicant will be required to participate in continuing education programs to maintain and update his/her knowledge and skills throughout your veterinary career.
  19. This entire process can be completed within 1 month or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
