Procedure

It is better to be in CRT (control of road transport, traffic police ) office earlier, the best 15-20 minutes before their opening time. Upon entering you need to get a waiting number. The machine for getting the numbers should be opposite the entrance, and for renewal of driving license, press the letter "C". There are electronic information boards on which you can see what number is next and at what counter to appear.

After 10 calendar days or 30 calendar days, depending on the service you selected, your new driver's license will be ready. Between 7:00 and 19 pm, at the relevant date, you need to go in the traffic police to get it. Once again you have to take a number from the machine, but this time you need to press "A".

The citizens of the Bulgarian capital Sofia can use some online services of the Ministry of Interior Affairs. They have the ability to electronically schedule an appointment for renewal/replacement of driver's license. The service, however, can only benefit the portion drivers. Eligibility

Every person with expired driving license is eligible for renewal in Bulgaria.

Fees

Prices - Quick service (10 calendar days) costs 55 lv, including fees and commissions. The ordinary service costs two times less, but it takes 30 days.

Validity

The renewing of the driving license is for period of another 10 years.

Instructions

There is no need to enroll in driving school again for renewal of the driving license. You do not need to pass any tests and exams again except for medical certificate from the GP.

Required Information

You must carry with you previously deducted medical certificate- for category "B" shall be made by the GP, identity card, driving license and control card. Do not take photos with you. These will be taken in CRT (Traffic Police) on the same counter, which are submitted the above documents. The service is included in the price for a new driving license. Also you will need a document from the Bulgarian Revenue Services, which will show that you do not owe money for traffic fines.

Need for the Document

The driving license in Bulgaria is issued for 10 years and can be renewed after. This period is shortened to five years for drivers of C-category vehicles and above, or anyone with a disability that affects their ability to drive.

Information which might help

It is important to know that the note to obtain a new license to drive does not give you the right to drive, if the term of your current driving license has expired. It takes about a week to receive the document from the Bulgarian Revenue Service.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

The driving license can be used as an identity card in many cases like in banks, post offices etc.
