Apply through mail
- To apply for Rendering Plant Approval through mail, the applicant has to forward an application to the mailing address of the Animal Feed Division in the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
- The applicant has to first download the application form by clicking the following Application form link
- After downloading the application form, the applicant has to complete it with details required in the application form.
- Please note that the form can be completed on paper (by taking a print out) as well as on system itself (electronically) without using the internet connection.
- To know what are all the details required, refer the “Required Information” section of this page, before starting to fill the form.
- Complete the application form as required and take a print out of the completed application form (if it has been filled electronically). Then, choose a safe and secure mail service to send the application form.
- Before sending the application form, the applicant can contact the General enquiries number in the following link to get the fees details: Contact link
- The official in charge will inform the applicant regarding the fees details and available payment modes.
- The applicant has to follow their instructions and pay the required fees for the Rendering Plant Approval.
- Then, the applicant should send the application form to the following address: Animal Feed Division, 59, Camelot Drive, Ottawa, ON, K1A 0Y9.
- Upon receipt of the application, the Agency will assess the application form to check whether all the required information has been provided.
- If it finds that the application is complete and provided information is sufficient, it will issue the Approval with prior intimation.
- The Agency will inform the applicant through phone call or email or text message or any other applicable means, to collect the approval.
- Meanwhile the applicant can also contact the Animal Feed Division of the Agency, to know the status of their application.
Apply through fax/facsimile
- To apply for Rendering Plant Approval through fax, the applicant has to forward an application to the fax number of the Animal Feed Division in the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

- The manufacturing process should not contain any prohibited material as per the Health of Animals Regulations Prohibited Material

- Some forms contain a button which enhances the applicant to send the form by email. The form is sent using whatever email service or software they have configured on their computer.
- If they are using a web mail service (vs. email client software) and have not configured their email service to function with "mail to" links, the button may not function.
- In such cases, they can save the file, and send the file as an attachment using whatever functionality their computer configuration and email provider supplies.

Rendering Plant Approval from the Canada Food Inspection Agency approves and authorizes its holders to carry out manufacturing of Protein meals or fats from animal by-product materials.

Information for Rendering Plant operators:
- The operators should remove approved or revoked tags from dead stock when disposing of it.
- They must report the identification number of the approved and revoked tag(s) borne by the animal to the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency within 30 days of disposing of dead stock.
- The carcasses of bison, cattle and sheep transported from any site for off-site disposal must bear an approved tag before being loaded into the conveyance used for the transportation.
