Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for New Disability Benefits for Veterans in person, the applicant has to visit the nearest Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) office or any Canadian Armed Forces Transition Centre or any Service Canada office.

  4. Visit any office as per convenience and obtain an application form for New Disability Benefits for Veterans, from the respective department.
  5. The application form can also be downloaded by clicking the following link: application form
  6. Then, the applicant should complete the application form either electronically or by using a pen, with all the required information under relevant fields.
  7. The applicant should make sure that he/she has all the documents in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  8. The applicant should attach all the required documents with the completed application form.
  9. After that, he/she should submit the application package to the relevant authority at the office or it can also be mailed directly to the address listed on the form.
  10. The service is free and the applicant need not pay any fees.
  11. Upon submission of the application package, relevant officials at the office will check whether all the required information has been submitted.
  12. If the submitted information is found complete, the application package is forwarded to an adjudicator and reviewed by him/her.
  13. Once the adjudicator reaches a decision on the applicant’s claim, he/she will send a decision letter to the applicant, through any available means.
  14. It will contain the information whether the application has been accepted or rejected. If accepted, the letter will also show the applicant’s entitlement and assessment.
  15. If rejected, it will indicate the corresponding reason and the applicant is free to re-appeal for a departmental review.
  16. In either case, the adjudicator makes the decision within 16 weeks.


Apply online

  1. To apply for New Disability Benefits for Veterans online, the applicants has to visit the following link apply online
  2. Users who already have a Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) account can visit the link and click “Sign-In” button. Choose an applicable sign-in option in the next page and then proceed.
  3. Or else, click “Register” button to sign up for new VAC account. There will be two options to sign in and create the VAC account.
  4. If the applicant wishes to continue with Sign-In Partner, he/she should click “Continue to Sign-In Partner” button or click “Continue to GC Key” button to continue with GC Key.
  5. In the first case, the applicant should use the online banking information and proceed to create the VAC account.
  6. In the other case, the applicant should use the GC Key User ID and proceed to create the VAC account.
  7. If the applicant does not have a GC Key, he/she can click the “Sign Up” button and proceed to create the GC Key.
  8. The application process can be completed just by following the on-screen instructions as applicable.
  9. After creating the VAC account, the applicant can locate the option for applying New Disability Benefits for Veterans in the VAC portal.
  10. Complete the application form as applicable with required details and information under respective fields.
  11. Then, submit the completed application by clicking an applicable option.
  12. Upon submission of the application package, relevant officials at the office will check whether all the required information has been submitted.

  • Any Canadian Armed Forces member or Veteran or a current or former member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), can apply.
  • Any Second World War or Korean War Veteran including Merchant Navy or certain civilians who served in the Second World War, can apply.

InstructionsEdit

  • If the applicant received a benefit from VAC between 2003 and 2010 and it was under the Pension Act, they might receive a corrective payment because of a discrepancy in the calculations.
  • If the applicant is legally entitled to inherit assets from the estate of a deceased recipient, they shall apply to receive a corrective payment, if eligible.
  • If the disability for which the applicant is receiving VAC benefits worsens and medical evidence can show this change in the condition, they can request a reassessment.
  • If the reassessment confirms that the condition has worsened, the applicant’s disability benefit will be adjusted accordingly – unless they are already receiving the maximum amount of the benefit.
