Apply In-Person
- The applicant must apply for CPP Disability benefits as soon as they develop any mental or physical condition. The applicant must apply to the Department of Employment and Social Development Canada.
- The applicant must fill in an application form. There are two application forms, the applicant must select the one that applies to their condition.
- The applicant has to download the application form from the following form Non-terminal illness or Form Terminal illness only.
- The applicant must fill in the application form with all the relevant details.
- Submit the application form to the nearest Service Canada Centre, find the nearest centre by clicking on the link under the “Office Locations and Contacts” section of this page.
- Once the application has been received, the applicant shall get a call.
- Once the application is submitted, the applicant will need to work with their doctor/nurse to submit either of these medical forms Link Non-terminal illness or Link Terminal illness.
- The applicant can submit the application form at the Service Canada Centre, the applicant can find the information on completing the medical form under the “Information which might help” section of this page.
- The applicant does not need to pay any fees to apply for a pension disability plan.
- Once the application along with the documents has been reviewed, the applicant shall receive a call and once a decision has been made, a letter will be sent to the applicant.
Apply Online
- The applicant must apply for CPP Disability benefits as soon as they develop any mental or physical condition.
- The applicant will have to register for a My Service Canada Account (MSCA). If the applicant has an account login. If the applicant does not have an account, follow these steps:
- To create an account, click on the following Link.
- Scroll to the bottom and under the “New User” option, click on the option the applicant would like to register using.
- Click on “Start now”.
- The applicant will need to enter all the relevant details such as username, password, bank details and so on and the account will be created.
- The applicant can log in to their MSCA account using their credentials.
- The applicant can complete the application form online, fill in the application form with all the relevant details and submit it by clicking on the “Submit” button.
- Once the application has been submitted, the applicant will have to complete this form Link, the applicant will have to either mail this form Link or the applicant can submit it at the nearest Service Canada Centre.
- Once these forms have been submitted, the applicant will have to submit a medical certificate, the applicant can do this by simply submitting the document online through their MSCA account.
- Once the application along with the documents has been reviewed, the applicant shall receive a call and once a decision has been made, a letter will be sent to the applicant.

EligibilityEdit
For a CPP Disability Benefit, the applicant must meet the following conditions:
- The applicant is under 65 years of age.
- The applicant has contributed to the Canada Pension Plan.
- The applicant has a mental or physical ability that prevents them from doing any gainful work.
- The applicant has a disability that is long-term or of indefinite length and may likely result in death.
For a Post-retirement Disability Benefit, the applicant must meet the following conditions:
- The applicant is 60 to 65 years of age.
- The applicant has contributed to the Canada Pension Plan.
- The applicant has a mental or physical ability that prevents them from doing any gainful work.
- The applicant has a disability that is long-term or of indefinite length and may likely result in death.
- The applicant has been receiving a CPP retirement pension for more than 15 months or has become disabled after receiving the retirement pension.

- The applicant does not need to pay feed to obtain CPP Disability Benefits.

Processing TimeEdit
- It takes 4 months to process the application and come to a decision. (The applicant must submit the application form as soon as possible; they need to wait for their medical documents as these can be submitted later.)
- A decision is only made after the applicant submits a completed medical application form and a signed medical report.
- If the applicant's condition is serious, a decision is made within 30 days.
- If the applicant has a terminal illness, the decision is made within 5 days.
