Need for the DocumentEdit

  • The Legal Reserve Compensation Certificate (CRLs), or Certificados de Reserva Ambiental (CRA's) in Portuguese, is a financial asset that represents the right to compensate for the environmental deficit of a rural property in Brazil.
  • It is issued by landowners who have more Legal Reserve (RL) than required by law, and can be purchased by landowners who have a deficit of RL on their properties.

Information which might helpEdit

Here are some of the specific benefits of obtaining a CRL:
Comply with the LR law without having to set aside a large portion of land for native vegetation: The LR law requires farmers to maintain a certain percentage of their land under native vegetation.
Generate income: CRLs can be a valuable source of income for farmers. Farmers can sell CRLs to other farmers who need to offset their LR deficit.
Improve the environmental quality of rural properties: CRLs can help to improve the environmental quality of rural properties by promoting the restoration of native vegetation

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

Please explain what are other uses of obtaining this document/certificate.

OthersEdit

In addition to these specific benefits, CRLs can also have a number of other positive impacts, such as:
Promote sustainable agriculture: CRLs can help to promote sustainable agriculture by encouraging farmers to maintain native vegetation on their properties.
Create jobs: The CRL market has created jobs in the environmental sector. Farmers who sell CRLs can generate income from their land without having to convert it to agriculture.
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions: Native vegetation helps to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
