- To Apply for Legal Reserve Compensation Certificate (CRL), the applicant has to approach theMinistry of the Environment (Ministério do MeioAmbiente) link
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- Once the compensation plan is approved, the environmental authorities will issue the Legal Reserve Compensation Certificate (CRL).
- Implement the compensation activities outlined in the approved plan. This may include reforestation, restoration, or protection of the compensation area.
- Comply with ongoing monitoring and reporting requirements to ensure that the compensation activities are maintained and meet the specified environmental standards.
- Upon successful completion of compensation activities and compliance with all regulations, they will receive the Legal Reserve Compensation Certificate (CRL) from the environmental authorities.
- This entire process can be completed in several weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

To be eligible to apply for a CRL, rural landowners must meet the following requirements:
- The property must be located in a rural area of Brazil.
- The property must be covered by the Brazilian Forest Code.
- The property must have a valid environmental license.
- The landowner must have a plan to restore the RL areas on their property.
