- To Apply for Brazilian identity card (RG Registro Geral), the applicant has to approach the Cartório De Registro Civil link
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
- For further process, the applicant has to follow the instruction given by the officer.
- Once the application is processed, return to the Civil Registry Office to collect the applicant’s Brazilian Identity Card (RG).
- This entire process can be completed within 15 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

- Original or certified copy of your birth certificate.
- Proof of residence (a utility bill or any official document that shows the applicant’s address).
- A recent passport-sized photograph.
- Marriage certificate (if applicable).
- CPF (Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas) - Brazilian Taxpayer Registry, which the applicants can obtain at the local Receita Federal office.
- Proof of military service completion or exemption (for males between 18 and 45 years old).
- Any other documents (If required)

To be eligible to apply for a Brazilian identity card (RG Registro Geral) in Brazil,the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Brazilian citizen or have Portuguese citizenship under the Brazil and Portugal's special relationship.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a CPF number (Cadastro de Pessoa Física). If the applicant does not have a CPF number, he/she can apply for one at the same time as he/she applies for his/her RG.
