Apply In-Person

  1. The application to renew a pesticides registration certificate shall be made to the Department of Plant/ Crop Production Offices. Department of Crop Production Headquarters and District Crop Production Offices Location & Contact Details
  2. The application shall be made in writing using a prescribed Form -1, obtainable at any of the District Crop Production Offices and shall be accompanied by all the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page. Any omission of the required information or document will render the application incomplete.
  3. The complete application file and product label must be submitted in triplicate to the Registrar of Agrochemicals at the Division of Plant Protection Offices in Sebele.
  4. Application that are submitted to the District Crop Production Offices will be forwarded to the Division of Plant Protection Offices in Sebele, which process all application relating to the issue/renewal of Agrochemical Licences.
  5. Where an applicant is only seeking renewal registration for the sale of an agrochemical and the manufacturer of the agrochemical is not prepared to give the applicant information about such agrochemical, the manufacturer shall submit the full composition statement of such agrochemical directly to the Registrar.
  6. Upon receipt of the application, the agrochemical registrar will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
  7. Once all the relevant documents are submitted and inspection conducted at the warehouse, a certificate may be renewed by the Registrar after consultation with the Committee.
  8. If the Registrar is satisfied that the agrochemical remains effective and suitable for use in Botswana and upon payment of the renewal fee of BWP 250.00 or BWP 300.00 for late renewal of registration, he shall issue the renewed certificate within 10 working days.
  9. Where the Registrar is not satisfied that the application meets the requirements for the application, he shall reject the application and notify the applicant thereof in writing, stating the reasons for the rejection.


Appeal to the Minister
Any person aggrieved by the-
  • Refusal to grant a certificate or deferral of decision making to register the agrochemical; or
  • Variation of a condition of a certificate or cancellation of a licence, may, within thirty days of the decision of the Registrar, appeal to the Minister in the manner prescribed or to the court on a matter of law.

  • Current/ expired Registration certificate for the agrochemical (Pesticides)
  • Full toxicological data of the agrochemical (Pesticide)
  • Methods of analysis of the agrochemical
  • Residue and phytotoxicity data of the agrochemical under Botswana or similar conditions.
  • Any other additional document information, samples and materials as may be required by the Agrochemical Registrar.

EligibilityEdit

Applicants must satisfy the following list of requirements to qualify for this service:

  • ​Must be aged 18 years and above.
  • Applicant must have an Agrochemical Course Certificate.
  • Must have a Valid Trading License.
  • The applicant must hold a current/expired pesticide registration certificate


FeesEdit

  • The renewal fee of BWP 250.00 if the application is made before the expiration of the current registration certificate.
  • For late renewal registration an additional fee of BWP 50.00 is added to the renewal fee of BWP 250.00.


ValidityEdit

The Registration Certificate shall be valid for five (5) years, unless suspended, cancelled or revoked by the Authority.

InstructionsEdit

Where the Registrar registers an agrochemical (Pesticide), he or she may issue a certificate to the applicant and thereby-

  • Attach, to the certificate issued such conditions concerning the importation, manufacture, labelling, advertising, distribution, sale and use of the pesticide to ensure its effectiveness and suitability in Botswana.
  • Classify the agrochemical as a restricted pesticide to be handled with particular care so as not to cause pollution to the environment, or harm to human, animal or plant life.
  • Require the pesticide to be used under the supervision of a person authorised by the Registrar.

  • No person or business should sell, import, distribute, manufacture or commercially use an agrochemical (pesticide) that is not registered/ certified by the Department of Crop Production.
  • Registered and certified agrochemical (pesticide) are issued with a registration certificate, this certificate needs to be renewed before/upon expiring.
