Apply In-Person

  1. The application for renewing a certificate of airworthiness should be made by the registered owner, representative, or an agent who has an Authorization letter from the registered owner to CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY OF BOTSWANA {CAAB) head office at least four (4) weeks before the expiry of the current certificate. Please view the CAAB contact details via this link: Link
  2. Applicants are required to complete and submit the prescribed APPLICATION CERTIFICATE OF AIRWORTHINESS Form AIR 113, forms are available for free at any of the CAAB offices or download it via the CAAB website Link click on the hyperlink “CAAB Form AIR 113” located under Certificate of Airworthiness section, or directly download it via this linkLink
  3. The completed application form, attached to the supporting documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, should be submitted to the CAAB head office for evaluation and consideration.
  4. The CAAB registration and licensing receiving officer will verify if all the required documents and information have been provided, and if the application is compliant if everything is in order, the application file will be registered, upon paying the prescribed fee, as mentioned under the “FEE” section of this page.
  5. The applicant shall be advised to facilitate the Authority inspectors to access the aircraft at a time and place acceptable to the Authority, for such checks and inspections required by the Authority;
  6. This will be followed by airworthiness flight tests. This is carried out by pilots and crew approved for the purpose and in accordance with a flight test schedule acceptable to the Authority.
  7. Except where the Authority requires an additional crew to be carried for a particular airworthiness flight test, the number of persons conducting the test should be confined to the crew specified in the Flight manual.
  8. After successful documents evaluation and flight inspection, the applicant is required to facilitate and make arrangements for the Authority inspectors to carry out the aircraft inspection for Certificate of Airworthiness (C of A) issuance.
  9. The aircraft should be located and available, at a time and place acceptable to the Authority, for such checks and inspections required by the Authority.
  10. Such checks and inspections will include physical components installation verification, emergency equipment (location, validity, ease of access, and legibility of operating instructions), compliance with the Markings and Placards requirements, and the general aircraft condition.
  11. During inspections it will be required to present for inspection: -
    • The Aircraft Flight Manual,
    • Minimum Equipment List,
    • The aircraft technical records and
    • The Log-Books as applicable.
  12. All the aircraft current and past technical records to verify its operational and maintenance life history.
  13. Note: It is required to rectify all outstanding defects, comply with all due mandatory inspections, modifications, and replacement requirements at the C of A issue.
  14. When the Authority is satisfied that all the applicable regulatory requirements have been complied with, the Certificate of Airworthiness will be renewed and you will be notified when the license is ready for collection by phone or mail.
  15. Proceed to the CAAB registration and license office and present the acknowledgment letter and identity document to be validated by the licensing office, sign on the signature pad/book and collect the renewed Aircraft Airworthiness certificate at the dispatch office against your identity document.

EligibilityEdit

The aircraft continued airworthiness depends upon;

  • The aircraft is maintained in accordance and compliance with the aircraft maintenance program approved by the Authority;
  • The aircraft complies with all applicable state of manufacture mandatory modifications, inspections, and airworthiness directives; and
  • The aircraft is operated within the performance and operating limitations of its approved Aircraft Flight Manual, and in compliance with The Civil Aviation Regulations.

ValidityEdit

  • A certificate of airworthiness issued by the CAAB Authority shall be valid for twelve (12) months from the date of issue and renewable thereafter; unless suspended or revoked by the same authority

InstructionsEdit

THE HOLDERS OF THE CERTIFICATE SHALL BE SUBJECTED TO THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS;

  • For the certificate holder to immediately inform the Authority, in writing, of;
  • Any change in the particulars which were furnished to the Authority at the time of making an application.
  • Note: failure to inform the Authority of any change in particulars on the aircraft is an offense and you shall be liable to a fine not exceeding P5 000, or to imprisonment to a term not exceeding 2 years, or to both
  • The destruction of the aircraft, or its permanent withdrawal from use;
  • For the certificate holder to comply with all terms and conditions as mentioned on the certificate
  • For the certificate holder to comply with any other conditions which the Authority may impose.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • A Certificate of Airworthiness (C of A) is required for the aircraft as an attestation that the aircraft has been maintained under an approved aircraft maintenance program, and complies with applicable airworthiness and safety requirements as stipulated in the Civil Aviation (Airworthiness) Regulations Act.
  • An aircraft that meets the requirements for certification shall not fly in or over Botswana unless it has a valid and current Certificate of Airworthiness (or an equivalent document) issued by the State in which the aircraft is registered.
