- An application for the renewal of an Air Service License (AMEL) shall be submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) office, not later than four (4) months, prior to the date of expiry of the current license.CAAB Contact Details
- The application shall be made in writing using a prescribed form- Application for An Air Service Licence or Permit, obtainable at the CAAB offices or download it via the CAAB website CAAB Application Forms or download it directly using this link;Application for An Air Service Licence or Permit
- The completed form, shall be accompanied by all the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page and submitted to the CAAB head office, Air Transport unit for consideration. Any omission of the required information or documents will render the application process incomplete.
- Upon receipt of the application, the Licensing officers will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
- If the Licensing officer is satisfied that all the requirements have been met for the application for the license, the application is registered for processing and consideration.
- Applicants will be required to pay prescribed Application fees as mentioned on the CAAB fee schedule (refer to the “Fees” section of this page), which is payable either in cash at the CAAB cashier counter/accounts office or by cheque in favour of the CAAB.
- The applicant is issued with a payment slip and an acknowledgment slip as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
- Upon submission of the application documents the authority’s Inspectors will then carry out an in-depth review of the contents of each document submitted for regulatory compliance, relevance and scope.
- After a successful evaluation phase, the Authority Shall carry out an inspection of the organization to ensure that the organization declarations and commitments stated in the documents are actually available, functional, are of the recommended standard and that there are qualified persons in the recommended numbers to perform the aircraft maintenance related activities in the organization different departments and sections.
- When all regulatory requirements for approval of the license are satisfactorily met, the Authority shall prepare and issue to the applicant the Renewed Air Service License that shall be valid for a period of twelve calendar months (12 months) which indicate the approval scope and limitations.
- A notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the applicant by phone or mail.
- Proceed to the CAAB Air Transport registration and license office and present the acknowledgment letter, identity document and proof of payment of the license fee to be validated by the licensing office.
- The applicant will be made to, sign on the signature pad/book and will be issued with the printed renewed license.

- Regular statistics of Traffic, Fleet and personnel, and Financial Summaries, according to Air Transport Directive No. 1/1987 and other relative Directives.
- Structure of the Aircraft Fleet and related characteristics and major technical specifications.
- Aircraft Maintenance procedures and checks; and Address of the Maintenance Base and Stores of Spare Parts.
- Proof of payment of the renewal license prescribed fees.
- Any other particulars required by the CAAB

ValidityEdit
- Air Service License is valid for one (1) year from the date of issue or last renewal and it shall remain valid for that specified period unless, cancelled, revoked or suspended by the authority.
- Applicants need to apply for license renewal to CAAB at least four (4) months before expiry.

InstructionsEdit
- An application for the renewal of a licence shall be submitted to the Authority not later than two months prior to the date of expiry of a licence, and shall be accompanied by a renewal fee as set out in the scheme of aeronautical fees.
- Where an application for renewal is made after the period specified, the Authority may renew the licence, subject to the payment of a fine of P2 000 for each day the licence has not been renewed, which amount shall not be calculated to exceed three months from the date of expiry. Where a licensee does not renew a licence within three months of its expiry, the Authority shall revoke that licence.
