- The application to register as a Trainee Environmental Assessment Practitioner (TEAP) shall be made to the Environment Assessment Practitioners Board (EAPB), whose mandate is to register and certify environmental assessment practitioners. BEAPA Contact &Map Location Details.
- A person interested in the TEAP program should first negotiate with a certified practitioner of SEAP level and above to provide mentorship. The EAPB will not get involved in the negotiations, nor the terms of the agreement if any unless such terms violate the code of conduct signed by the mentor
- The Botswana Environmental Assessment Practitioner (BEAPA) will notify the general public through its website, its social media page, or other media platform of the opening of the registration and certification process. The registration process is usually carried out quarterly each year i.e. during the months of (February, May, August & November)
- All prospective applicants are required to respond to the notification, by collecting the TEAP Application Form, EAPB CV template, EAPB Reference Form, and EAPB Application Checklist, obtainable at the receptionist desk at the BEAPA office or download it via the BEAPA website BEAPA Downloadable or directly download them using these links, TEAP Application Form CV Template
- The duly completed application forms, attached to the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page should be submitted, either by E-mail or as hard copies (hand-delivered) in an enclosed manila envelope before the deadline. All applications must be addressed to the Executive Secretary. Any omission of the required documents or information will render the registration process incomplete.
- Upon receipt of the application file, the registrar will verify if all the necessary information and documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the application file for assessment and consideration by the Board.
- Applicants are required to make payment of the Application fee (Non- refundable) which is payable by depositing it into the BEAPA Bank Account. No cash is handled at the BEAPA office and as such, you should not give anybody any money for them to assist you. (Refer to “Fees” section of this page for the fee schedule and bank details)
- Applicants will be issued with a BEAPA acknowledgment slip or sent an acknowledgment email, which shall serve as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
- Notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the client by letter, SMS, or the client's preferable notification method.
- If approved, the board will direct the registrar to register the applicant as a Trainee Environmental Assessment Practitioner (TEAP), and the applicant is issued with a letter authorizing him/her to enter the TEAP program and specifying the period to be covered by the mentorship.
- Applicants are required to keep a record of relevant experience acquired and training, which must be signed-off by their mentor. This must be submitted with the documents for EAP level application.
NOTE:
- Application / Registration as a TEAP is required for ALL first applicants regardless of higher degree and or vast experience.

- National Identity card/ Omang (citizens), passport, Residence and Work Permits (non-citizens).
- Personal Statement/Application Letter/cover letter. (Detailing their qualifications, experience, the TEAP program duration, and stating the names and certificate number of their mentor)
- Curriculum Vitae (in EAPB CV Format)
- One (1) Reference Letter.
- Letter from mentor/tutelage provider agreeing to provide tutelage (copy of the agreement between the mentor and the applicant should be acceptable).
- Proof of payment into the Association’s bank account.
- Certified copies qualification certificates i.e. Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree, or Master’s Degree) (If major subjects are not stated in the certificate please submit transcript(s))
Important notes:
- 12 copies (1 original 11 copies) of the above-mentioned documents should be submitted, with the original marked “Original” and copies marked “Copies”.

EligibilityEdit
Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply.
- Citizens and non-citizens are eligible to apply.
- Should have attained Tertiary qualification in an environmental discipline at a reputable University (Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree, or Master’s Degree).
- Non-citizen applicants should hold a valid recognized certificate to practice as a practitioner in their country, and there is reciprocal recognition of the Botswana Association in the country where the applicant originates.
- No prior work experience in the environmental management sector is required.
- No prior work experience in Consistent involvement in the review of Environmental Assessment reports is required.

Important Note
- Trainee Environmental Assessment Practitioners (TEAPs) can only be mentored/trained only by a senior and or a Principal Environmental Assessment Practitioner.
- TEAPs are Trainees and NOT Practitioners, hence, NOT issued Certificates of practice. (Applicants are issued with a letter authorizing the applicant to enter the TEAP program)
- The TEAP cannot submit EIA Reports directly to DEA on their own;
- Trainee EAP level is relevant to those beginning their careers as Environmental Assessment Practitioners. These are individuals that hold a Diploma/Degree/Post Graduate in a field relevant to the environment as defined in the Environmental Assessment Act, 2011, (Section 2) but with no or inadequate EIA experience to qualify for certification at the EAP level.
- Negotiation for mentorship/tutelage with a certified practitioner (of SEAP level and above) is a matter between the applicant and mentor/tutelage provider nor the terms of the agreement if any unless such terms violate the code of conduct signed by the mentor.
- The TEAP program does not apply to Practitioner (Reviewers) and non-resident applicants.
- Each TEAP’ evidence of training, engagement in hands-on EIA/EMP processes, participation in different stages of EIA/EMP, as well as clear specification/description of the role played in each EIA/EMP project/study – MUST be included / form part of the team of each project/study participated in. Upon completion of the TEAP Training period, an UPGRADE for the next level category of Registration & Certification is encouraged. The next level here is referred to as the Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP).
