The application to register as a Senior Environmental Assessment Practitioner (SEAP) shall be made to the Environment Assessment Practitioners Board (EAPB), whose mandate is to register and certify environmental assessment practitioners. BEAPA Contact &Map Location Details.
The Botswana Environmental Assessment Practitioner (BEAPA) will notify the general public through its website, its social media page, or other media platform of the opening of the registration and certification process. The registration process is usually carried out quarterly each year i.e. during the months of (February, May, August & November)
All prospective applicants are required to respond to the notification, by collecting the SEAP Application Form, EAPB CV template, EAPB Reference Form, and EAPB Application Checklist, obtainable at the receptionist desk at the BEAPA office or download it via the BEAPA website BEAPA Downloadable or directly download them using these links, SEAP Application Form CV Template
The duly completed application forms, attached to the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page should be submitted, either by E-mail or as hard copies (hand-delivered) in an enclosed manila envelope before the deadline. All applications must be addressed to the Executive Secretary. Any omission of the required documents or information will render the registration process incomplete.
Upon receipt of the application file, the registrar will verify if all the necessary information and documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the application file for assessment and consideration by the Board.
Applicants are required to make payment of the Application fee (Non- refundable) which is payable by depositing it into the BEAPA Bank Account. No cash is handled at the BEAPA office and as such, you should not give anybody any money for them to assist you. (Refer to “Fees” section of this page for the fee schedule and bank details)
Applicants will be issued with a BEAPA acknowledgment slip or sent an acknowledgment email, which shall serve as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
Upon receipt of the application file, the board shall approve the applicant to be registered as a Practitioner where it is satisfied that-
- That he/she is a fit and proper person to be registered as a Practitioner.
- Has passed any other examination or interview as the Board may determine
- Has presented evidence of prior learning.
- Has demonstrated his competence as measured against standards as may be determined by the Board for registration under that category.
- Non-citizen applicants should hold a valid recognized certificate to practice as a practitioner in their country, and there is reciprocal recognition of the Botswana Association in the country where the applicant originates.
The board may require an applicant to furnish them with additional information or evidence of eligibility for registration as it may think fit and may summon the applicant, to appear personally before the board or subcommittee for an interview.
Notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the client by letter, SMS, or the client's preferable notification method.
If approved, the board will direct the registrar to register the applicant as a Senior Environmental Assessment Practitioner (SEAP) and draw up the BEAPA Practicing Certificate to be issued to the client, upon presenting their identity document, approval letter, and proof of payment of the Annual Subscription fee and the certification fee to be validated by the BEAPA registrar's office.

An upgrade to the next level category of Registration & Certification, is encouraged. The next level here is referred to as the Principal Environmental Assessment Practitioner (PEAP). National Identity card/ Omang (citizens), passport Residence and Work Permits (non-citizens).
Personal Statement/Application Letter/cover letter. (Detailing how the applicant meets the requirements for the level applied for, e.g. educational qualifications, experience, and competencies).
Completed EAPB Curriculum Vitae (CV) Template for Consultants
Three (3) References Letter.
Certified copies Qualification Certificates i.e. tertiary certificates & transcripts. (Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree, or Master’s Degree)
Proof of payment into the Association’s bank account.

Important note:

12 copies (1 original 11 copies) of the above-mentioned documents should be submitted, with the original marked “Original” and copies marked “Copies”.
Each SEAP’ must provide evidence of participation in different stages of EIA/EMP, as well as clear specification/description of role played in each EIA/EMP project/study – MUST be included / form part of the team of each project/study participated in.

EligibilityEdit

Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply.

Citizens and non-citizens are eligible to apply.
Applicants are required to have been registered as an Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP), first. That is for 2 years for Bachelor’s Degree holder and 1 year for a Master’s degree holder regardless of higher degree and or vast experience.
Should have attained Tertiary qualification in an environmental discipline at a reputable University (Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree, or Master’s Degree).
Non-citizen applicants should hold a valid recognized certificate to practice as a practitioner in their country, and there is reciprocal recognition of the Botswana Association in the country where the applicant originates.
Relevant work experience in Consistent involvement in the review of Environmental Assessment reports. Bachelor’s degree 3 years or Master’s degree 2 years or Doctorate degree 1 years.
Relevant work experience in environmental management in at least (4) different sectors (e.g. Tourism & Conservation, Energy, Agriculture, Infrastructure, Mining/quarrying, etc.) Leadership in EA work is a must; CPD Log Book, detailing any EA work completed and approved since they first applied to the scheme; Attendance in relevant EIA courses. Bachelor’s degree 5 years or Master’s degree 4 years or Doctorate degree 3 years.

ValidityEdit

The SEAP Registration & practicing certificate is valid for one year from the date of issue unless suspended, revoked, or cancelled by the authority.
Upon expiring, the Registration & practicing certificate should be renewed.

Registering as a Senior Environmental Assessment Practitioner (SEAP) proves that one has been registered and certified by the Environment Assessment Practitioners Board (EAPB).
The SEAP practicing Certificate is a document that proves to peers, employers, and clients that one has demonstrated a commitment to professional standards and code of professional ethics, and to developing and enhancing competence and also authorized to engage in practitioner works, during the period for which the certificate is issued.
