Procedure

Apply In Person

1. The application to open an Ordinary Savings Account with the Botswana Saving Bank shall be made through any of the Botswana Saving Banks (BSB) branch office. BSB Contact Details
2. Applicants are required to collect the BSB Account Application Form, obtainable for free at any of the BSB branch offices customer care desk, or download it via the BSB website, BSB downloadable forms, or download it directly using this link, Account Application Form
3. Fill out the application form and read the Terms and Conditions section keenly before making the declaration, as this is where the bank asks you to confirm that you read disclosure documentation describing fees, liabilities, and how to account interest is calculated. Ideally, you have selected an account that earns high rates and has no or low monthly service charges. If need any assistance please do not hesitate to ask the customer care staff.
4. Submit the duly completed application form in all respect, attached to the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page to the nearest BSB branch office, consultant/inquiries for account opening and issuing of passbooks section.
5. Upon receipt of the application the BSB agent will verify if all the required information and documents have been provided for processing, if everything is in order, the client will be issued with a passbook, fill the deposit slip and submit it to the teller together with the minimum opening amount. The customer will be given a BSB card with the account details.
6. The application processing can take between two and five business days for the bank to verify your information, activate the account, and give the client access to his/her saving account.
7. Once the account is opened, the holder of the account can set up a direct deposit and schedule automatic transfers from checking to savings.

Via the Botswanapost Office

1. Alternative applicants can also submit their application file (printed, filled, and sign BSB Account Opening Application Form and the supporting documentation) to the nearest Botswanapost Office, Tellers for account opening and issuing of passbooks section. 2. Upon receipt of the application file the post office teller will verify if all the required information and documents have been provided for processing, if everything is in order, the client will be issued with an acknowledgment slip as proof of submission of the application and for further inquiring if the need arises.
3. The application file will be forwarded to the Botswana Saving Bank (BSB) office for processing and verification which can take between two and five business days for the bank to verify your information, open the account.
4. Once the account is opened the customer will be contacted by the specific post office where the application was lodged, to come and collect the passbook against their identity document and the acknowledgment slip.
5. At the time of passbook collection, the customer will be issued with a deposit slip to fill and submit to the post office teller together with the minimum opening amount.
6. The account will then be activated and the client is given authorization access to his/her saving account. The customer will be given a BSB card with the account details.
7. Once the account is opened, the holder of the account can set up a direct deposit and schedule automatic transfers from checking to savings.

Withdrawal of money from an Ordinary saving Account

• An interval between two withdrawals should at least be clear for seven days. For minors below seven years of age, withdrawals are permissible after attaining seven years of age. This is a visa card account that can be used in any visa ATM.
