- The application for an Entry Permit of Guns or Ammunition shall be made to the police station in the district in which the applicant intends to reside. Applicants are expected to start the application process at least two weeks prior to the Firearm and Ammunition arriving in Botswana. Botswana Police Service Contact Details
- Applicants are required to collect and complete the application for a temporary permit to possess firearms or ammunition (non-resident) form, which are obtainable at any of the police stations countrywide or directly download it using this link, Application for Temporary Permit to Possess Firearms or Ammunition (non-resident) form
- Please note; the application can be filed through an authorized agent.
- The duly completed application form should be submitted in triplicate with the attachments as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page, to the nearest licensing office at the police station. Any omission of the required information or documents will render the application process incomplete.
- Upon submission, the application is checked for completeness and correctness by licensing officer, if everything is in order the applicant will be required to pay the application fee of BWP 100.00.
- The application will only be registered for processing and consideration by the police commissioner, when payment of the application fee has been made, the applicant will be issued with a payment slip and an acknowledgment slip that proves submission of the application file and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
- The police commissioner conducts due diligence on the matter and will only approve the issue of the permit/ license, if he/she is satisfied that the applicant meet all the requirement
- If approved the permit will be drawn up as the commissioner see fit, signed and stamped by the commissioner him/herself, and made available for withdrawal by the owner of the firearm upon arrival in the country against his/her identity document, acknowledgment letter payment slip, at the licensing office where the application was lodged.
- The licensing officer will require the owner of the firearm, to present the firearm and ammunition in question to be ascertained and registered before being issued the permit.

- Arms Registration Certificate.
- Proof of invitation to an event/ activity where the firearm is to be used.
- Applications done through agents must be accompanied by an authorization letter from the registered firearm owner permitting another person to carry out this process on his behalf.
- An Export Permit from the country of origin.

EligibilityEdit
Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply,
- Any person aged 18 years and above.
- The Applicant has good reason to request permission to import the firearm and ammunition.
- The Applicant is of sound mind, temperate habits and of good character without any serious criminal conviction, and would use the arms applied for without danger to the public safety or peace.
- The applicant has the right training and knowledge on how to handle a firearm etc.

ValidityEdit
- A permit issued shall be valid for a period not exceeding 30 days and it shall remain valid for that period unless suspended, cancelled, or revoked by the issuing authority.
