Procedure

How to Apply
Apply In-Person

1. Applicant should visit Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development {MYSC} Headquarter or the nearest MYSC District Office for the application process for the Youth Development Fund, {see MYSC address details below}.
2. Collect the Youth Development Fund application form, from the MYSC service desk or use this link to download Link
3. Submit the completed form, along with relevant supporting documents {as listed below} to MYSC attending officer, who shall then verify that all the necessary information and documents have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria, before they are submitted to department Youth for assessment and processing, which is done annually between May and June.
4. Upon receipt of the application file, applicant will then be issued with an acknowledgement letter with a reference number by the MYSC agent for future enquiries that may require clarification by the youth department during the processing period. If summoned by the department, applicants will be required to avail themselves for an interview.
5. If approved, you will be registered as a beneficiary of the youth development fund programme and notified of the outcome by phone or in person and given further instruction.
6. Beneficiaries of the programme will then be taken through a pre-funding training programme by selected service providers for which the government pays.
7. The Department of Youth disburses the funds based on proposals prepared by the youth after training and also monitor the project.

Note: The youth can be funded as individual entrepreneurs or as a group or as a company

Required Documents

• A cash-flow forecast statement covering all revenue and expenditure for a period of 12 months
• Two (2) sets of quotations covering all items included in the proposed budget
• A copy of valid license of operation (where applicable)
• Certified copies of valid national identity document (Omang) for all business partners
• A letter of intent to lease or lease agreement in cases of operating businesses or proof ofownership thereof
• Curriculum Vitae of all members/partners
• Certified copies of vocational and or academic certificates or traceable references(where applicable)
• Copy of partnership deed, or cooperative constitution, or memorandum and articles ofassociation (where applicable)
• Company resolutions for loan application
• Succession plan
• Certificates of business registration and shareholder's certificate should show full details (i.e.names and ages) of members. (Form 2 & 5 listing Company Directors)
• Certified copies of parents/guardians/spouse’s national identity card (Omang)
• Proof of market (letters of intent to buy from potential customers, market research report)
• The expert consultation form should be part of the YDF form as a guide to youth to consult with the relevant experts that are in line with their proposed projects (where applicable)
• For married applicants (in community of property) there should be written consent from thespouse
• ITC clearance report upon approval and this should be provided by the applicant
• Applicants to provide documents confirming suitability of the proposed project site

Eligibility

To be eligible applicants should meet the following criteria;

• Botswana citizens aged 18-35 years
• Out-of-school youth
• Unemployed youth
• Underemployed youth earning less than P2 500/month
• Youth cooperatives comprising of 5-10 members
• Existing youth businesses: self-funded and funded through other government schemes such as LIMID, Poverty Eradication, Out of school youth grant whose businesses have operated for 6 months and above

• No fees associate with the service

Need for the Document

Youth Development fund is a Botswana Government programme, initiated by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC), which was established was established in 2009 mainly to address challenges faced by youth unemployment with its main aim as turning youth into job creators by venture into various economic enterprises funded at 50% loan & 50% grant.
