Apply In Person
- The application for Professional Hunters License shall be made to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) office, which is under the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism office. Ministry Contact Details.
- Upon notification by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) office for the opening of the application submission through various media platforms e.g. Botswana Government social media page, all prospective applicants are required to respond to the circulated advertisement and submit their application before the deadline as mentioned on the notification advert.
- All Prospective applicants are required to submit a written application letter attached to the relevant supporting documentation as mentioned under the ‘Required Documents” section of this page either in person or surface mail as per the specification on the notification advert.
- In the application letter, applicants must ensure that they specify clearly the category of license there are applying for and provide the correct email address and mobile number as these will be used to communicate any matter regarding their applications.
- The office responsible will immediately after the closing date, review, and process the application's files, based on the information and documents provided by the applicant, this is why applicants are advised to provide sufficient information.
- Approved applicants will be shortlisted and notified of the decision using the office's preferable communication channel.
- The shortlisted applicants will be required to sit for a theory and practical examination at the specific venue as advertised on the notification advert.
- Only applicants that pass both the theory and practical exams will be registered and licensed as a Professional Hunter or Assistance Professional Hunter.
- The professional Hunter license will be drawn up, signed by the Director/authorized official, and the DWNP stamp will be affixed on the license and made available for withdrawal by the applicant, upon presenting their identification document and paying the prescribed license fee as mentioned on the “Fees” section of this page, at the dispatch office.

Citizen requirements:
- Certified copies of certificates (Academic and Professional), 3 different References not more than 2 years.
- Certified copies driving license in Class B category
- Certified copy of valid National Identity Card (Omang)
- Botswana General Certificate in Secondary Education (BGCSE) or Cambridge Overseas School Certificate (COSC). (Certified copies)
- The application letter (which should mention the following):
- Specific the license category applying for. Professional Hunter or Assistance Professional Hunter
- Provide contacts numbers i.e. phone /cell number.
- Experience (if applicable): This is a direct entry-level and one (1) year tourism-related/field experience, as well as Certificate from BOTA, accredited Guides/Hunters Training Institutions will be an added advantage.
- Those upgrading should have three (3) years of traceable experience as Assistant Guides excluding the current year. They must also attach 4 previous copies of Assistant Guide licenses.
Non-Citizens requirements:
- The application letter should mention the following;
- Specific the license category applying for
- Provide contacts numbers i.e. phone /cell number.
- Experience: Should have five (5) years of documented traceable relevant Guiding/Hunting experience in a relevant environment.
- Certified copy of valid Passport
- Certified copies of resident and work permits or waivers.
- Certified copies of passport and driving License in Class B category
- Holder of a minimum of secondary school education or equivalent to Cambridge Overseas Certificate (COSC) (certified copy).
- A brief summary of a career with duties (Curriculum Vitae).
- Valid Guides or Hunters license from the country where one has been operating (certified copy).
- Three (3) references; the third should be from the Guides or Hunters Association from the country where one has been operating.

EligibilityEdit
To be eligible to apply applicant should meet the following criteria,
For Citizens
- 18 years of age and above
- Holder of Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) or Cambridge Overseas Certificate (COSC)
- With one (1) year of related field experience
- Hold a Valid driver’s license
- Those upgrading should have three (3) years of traceable experience as Assistant Guides excluding the current year.
For Non-Citizens
- 21 years of age and above
- Holder of a minimum of secondary school education or equivalent to Cambridge Overseas Certificate (COSC)
- Experience: Should have five (5) years of documented traceable relevant Guiding/Hunting experience in a relevant environment i.e. Southern Africa. In the case of hunters, they must have hunted five dangerous animals, one of which must be an elephant or accompanied hunts where five dangerous animals were hunted, including one elephant.

- Professional Hunter BWP 200.00.
Non-Citizens
- Professional Hunter BWP 1500.00.
ValidityEdit
- The Professional Hunters License is valid for one year from the date of issue and it shall remain valid for that specific period unless suspended, cancelled, or revoked by the authority.
- Upon expiry the license is subjected to renewal.
