Procedure

Apply In Person

1. The application for a Hunting of game Animals Permit, (which is subcategorized into; bird Hunting permit; single-game hunting permit; small game hunting permit; or special game hunting permit) shall be made to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) office which is under the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism. 2. The application shall be made in writing in such as manner as determined by the authority. The customer or authorized agent should submit the relevant supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, to the nearest DWNP Licensing and registration Unit. Any omission of these documents will render the application process incomplete.
3. The application for a single-game hunting permit and small game hunting permit shall be made no later than the last day of February in each calendar year.
4. Upon submission, the application is checked for completeness and correctness by licensing officer, if everything is in order the applicant will be required to pay a prescribed license fee as mentioned under the “Fees” Section of this page.
5. The application will only be registered for processing and consideration, when payment of the license fee has been made, the applicant will be issued with a payment slip and an acknowledgment slip that proves submission of the application file and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
6. After processing, which is within five (5) working days, the hunting card/permit is drawn up, specifying the game animal to be hunted and holder details, signed and stamped by a licensing officer and made available to be withdrawn by the client against their identity document, acknowledgment/payment slip at the specific office where the application was lodged.
7. The holder of the permit is also issued with a return form. The holder shall complete this return form and submit it to a DWNP Licensing Officer within thirty days of the termination of hunting, or of the termination of this license, or the termination of the hunting season, whichever is the soonest, whether or not any animal was killed or wounded. Note, it is an offense not to complete and submits this return form, to the DWNP Licensing and registration Unit.

NOTE:

• When a hunting card has no room for further entries, the holder of the hunting card may apply to a licensing officer for the issue of a new hunting card which shall be endorsed by the licensing officer to indicate whether it is a second or subsequent card.

• Citizens- A certified copy of a valid National Identification Card (Omang)
• Non-Citizens- Certified Copy of Passport
• Certificate of the rifle
• Registration documents from the camps/lodges (if applicable)
• Written consent of the landholder (Apply to a single game hunting permit and small game hunting permit).
• Any other supporting document as a request for by the DWNP Licensing offer.

Fees

BIRD HUNTING PERMIT FEES

• Citizens - BWP25.00 for a bird hunting season in a year.
• Non-Citizens;
• BWP150.00 - one week.
• BWP300.00 - one month.
• BWP750.00 - one year.

SMALL GAME PERMIT FEES

• Citizen BWP 75.00 Open season

PERMIT TO HUNT IN A CONTROLLED HUNTING AREA

• Citizen- BWP 20 One week
  

-BWP 40 Two weeks

• Non-citizen - BWP 200 One week
  

- BWP 400 Two weeks

Note:
Please consult with the DWNP office for single-game hunting permit fees and special game hunting permits.

Validity

• The validity period of the permit varies (one week, one month, or one year) and it shall remain valid for that specified period unless cancelled, revoked, or suspended by the issuing authority.

Important Notes

• Whilst engaged in hunting activity, the holder of a hunting card shall carry in his possession, at all times the original hunting card.
• The holder of a hunting card shall submit the card for inspection when required to do so by a wildlife officer and whenever the holder thereof applies for another license.
