Apply In Person
- The application for Standby Generator Connection and Commissioning shall be made to the, nearest BPC branch office. BPC Branches Contact details and Map Location.
- Applicants will be required to collect and complete the Application Form for Standby Generation Connection, available at any of the BPC customer service offices or download it via the BPC website BPC Technical Services or directly download it using this link, Application Form for Standby Generation Connection.
- Note, this application form should be accompanied by a single line schematic diagram with IEC Standard symbols showing the generator, metering point, and electrical interconnection to the customer’s electrical system.
- The duly completed Application Form for Standby Generation Connection and the attachments as mentioned under the “Supporting Documents” section of this page, should be submitted to the nearest BPC customer service office. Any omission of the supporting documents or information will render the application process incomplete.
- The application fee is to be paid at the BPC Customer Services office (Gaborone Main Mall) P224 per site and obtain a payment receipt. Submit receipt with the application.
- Upon receipt of the application file, the customer care officer will verify if all the information and documentation are in order, before forwarding the application file to be accessed and processing by the BPC technical team.
- Notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the client by the preferable notification mode i.e. in-person/ writing /phone/email.
- If approved, a shutdown date will be set for installation and commissioning. The activity is scheduled for Thursdays (other days negotiable). At commissioning the installation is inspected (wiring and component ratings), generator voltages tested on-load, and the interconnection interlocks tested for back feeds.

- Visit the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) website then select, “Customer Service” option located on the menu bar, then select “Technical Services” on the drop box, and then select “Generator Connection and Commissioning” on the extended menu.
- You will be redirected to the BPC Generator Commissioning Online Request Page.
- Accurately fill out the request form and upload the supporting documentation as listed on the site. All fields with a red asterisk are mandatory and should be filled, any omission of such information and documentation will render the application process incomplete and submission of the request will not be possible.
- The application fee is to be paid at the BPC Customer Services office (Gaborone Main Mall) P224 per site and obtain a payment receipt. Upload the receipt with the application.
- Please ensure that all the information and documents uploaded are in order, before clicking on the “Submit” button.
- Upon receipt of the application file, the BPC technical officer will verify if all the information and documentation have been provided, before accessing and processing the request.

- Please note:
Applicants applying for generators greater than 25kW rating, are required to first obtain a license for operating an interconnected standby generator from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Department of Energy Affairs (Gaborone Main Mall); however, this license is not required for connections at Government departments and generators less than 25KW rating.

- Application letter for generators interconnection and commissioning addressed to BPC Distribution Protection.
- For Gen-Set > 25kVA attach a license from the energy department.
- Proof of payment from BPC.
- Single line schematic diagram showing the generator, BPC metering point, and electrical interconnection to the load for the existing and proposed setups (clearly showing contacts for interlocks).
- Valid Identification document (Omang or Passport).
- Any other supporting documentation as requested by the BPC.
