  1. The application for Standards Mark Certification shall be made to the Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) office.BOBS Contact Details
  2. Applicants are required to visit/contact the BOBS offices and express their interest to apply for Standards Mark Certification to the nearest Bureau of Standards (BOBS) office, upon receipt of the request preliminary discussions are held by the BOB Certification Unit.
  3. Applicants are notified by phone, SMS, Email, or letter by the BOBS office about BOB Certification Unit resolutions, regarding their request.
  4. If approved, the formal application process begins, by the applicant collecting and completing all applicable application forms and checklist obtainable at the BOBS office.
  5. Submit the supporting documentation as mentioned on the checklist, in addition to the duly completed application forms in all respect to the BOBS office. Any omission of these documents will render the application process incomplete.
  6. Pay the required product certification fees as appropriate, either by depositing into the BOBS account or can be received through the Point of Sale (POS) machine (swiping machine) at the BOBS offices. Alternatively, you can pay by cheque written in favour of the Botswana Bureau of Standards or at the BOBS cash counter.
  7. Applicants will be issued with a BOBS payment receipt and an acknowledgment letter, which serves as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
  8. The BOBS quality assurance officers will pay a visit to your production facility to, carry out industrial inspection and draw samples for analysis.
  9. If nonconformities are identified at the point of Inspection, the Manufacturer has the responsibility to undertake corrective action and inform the BOBS to confirm the actions taken.
  10. Samples are analyzed at the BOBS laboratories or other accredited/Designated laboratories to check compliance with Botswana standards or approved specifications.
  11. If samples comply and the inspection officer’s report indicates compliance with codes of practice a recommendation is made for issuance of the permit to use standardization mark to the Certification Approvals Committee (CAC).
  12. If samples fail to comply in the first instance and corrective action reviewed for appropriateness retesting of parameter not complied with is done free of charge and if the product complies permit to use standardization mark is issued.
  13. If samples fail to comply in the second instance and subsequent tests, testing will be carried at the expense of the manufacturer.
  14. The BOB Certification Unit shall approve the issue of the license where it’s satisfied that-
    • Establish, document, and implemented a quality control system for production of the specific product that would ensure that the product quality would be consistent; and
    • The product has been tested and complied with the requirements of the specified Botswana standard.
  15. Customers who are certified are issued with a standards mark certification license to apply the Standard Mark on their products, catalogs and to claim certification, upon presenting their identity document, proof of payment of the applicable license fee the BOBS acknowledgment slip, to be validated by the registrar's office at the BOBS.
  16. The Standards Mark certification license shall be subjected to terms and conditions as the BOBS deems fit, manufactures registered shall exhibit, and keep exhibited, in a prominent place on the business premises, the Standards Mark certification license.


NOTE:

  • Surveillance Assessments

Following issuance of the Standards mark certification license, the BOBS conducts periodic surveillance activities and onsite surveillance audits at six months intervals as a minimum. All surveillance audits of your organization will be agreed upon by appointment, thereby ensuring the availability of relevant personnel.

ValidityEdit

  • The Standards Mark certification license is valid for 3 years from the date of issue unless suspended, revoked, or cancelled by the authority.
  • Upon expiring the license is subjected to renewal.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • The Standards Mark is a registered trademark that belongs to BOBS and can be used only by manufacturers issued with a Standards Mark certification license to use the mark. Misuse of the Standards Mark will lead to legal action being taken against you.
