Apply In-Person

  1. You should contact the office of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology department of Radiation Protection Inspectorate (RPI)for more information on how to file the application with the department.
  2. Application forms can be obtained from the above office or download them by clicking the link below Application for Radiation Monitoring Services, Agreement for the Radiation Monitoring Service (Agreement to Radiation Monitoring Services)
  3. Accurately fill in the forms and submit them for verification and processing at the RPI offices address (listed below) before the 10th of the month prior to the month monitoring is to begin.
  4. If the department is satisfied that you have complied with all the requirement as set for the application request, you will be notified of the approval decision within 21 days.
  5. Pay the monitor fee for the first month.
  6. Harshaw Thermo luminescent Dosimeter (TLD) badges for both personnel and environmental monitoring will be issued two weeks before the start of each monitoring period and will be exchanged monthly.
  7. Hard-copy radiation dose reports will be issued within 14 days after receipt of the used badges

EligibilityEdit

This service is provided to facilities that are licensed to possess and/or use radiation sources.

FeesEdit

  • Monitoring charge per worker/per month - BWP30.00
  • Replacement charge for a lost or damaged badge - BWP550.00

note

  • The fees, payable by cash, cheque, or adjustment voucher paid to the Radiation Protection Inspectorate are stipulated in the radiation protection regulation 2008

Processing TimeEdit

  • Processing of the application and agreement take approximately 21 days; therefore, applications must be received by the tenth of the month prior to the month monitoring services are to begin.
  • Monthly Radiation dose reports will be issued within 14 days of receipt of the used badges by NDL.

  • The Radiation Protection Inspectorate (RPI) National DosImetry Laboratory (NDL) of the Ministry of Science, Infrastructure and Technology provides a Radiation Monitoring Service that monitors individual exposure and radiation levels of the surrounding area due to ionizing radiation from external radiation sources.
  • The service is provided using Harshaw Thermo luminescent Dosimeter (TLD) badges for both personnel and environmental monitoring.

Need for the DocumentEdit

In relation to the Radiation Protection Regulations, 2008, ACT requires that anybody who works with radioactive sources and substances or material that emits ionizing radiation should be monitored to ensure precautions protective measures are meet and determine level of exposure to avoid health risk.
