Procedure

How to Apply
Apply In-Person

1. Applicants should visit the Ministry of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development, Department of Labour and Social Security, nearest Regional/District office for the application process for the Emergency work permit, {see address/contact information below}.
2. Collect and submit the completed “Emergency wok permit application form”, attached to the relevant supporting documents {as listed under required document section below} to be verified by the attending officer at the Department of Labour and Social Security offices.
3. Applicants will then be issued with an acknowledgment receipt,containing details of the application.
4. After vetting and assessment of the application file by the Regional Immigration Selection Boards (RISB).
5. If the application is successful the applicant will be issued with the emergency work permit after payment of the permit at the cash counter/office {in case of a 3-month emergency work permit}.
6. Re-visit the office in which the application was made, and present your identification document, acknowledgment slip, payment slip {if applicable} to be validated by the attending office and collect the emergency work permit.

Note

• If the application is rejected, a rejection letter will be issued, aggrieved applicant can file for an appeal to the Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development, whose decision is final {Refer to wikiprocedure website; Botswana-How to Appeal for Work Permit}

Required Documents

Three (3) months Emergency Work Permit

• Copy of job advert not older than six (6) months old.
• Contract of employment.
• Application letter for work (signed).
• Letter of offer or appointment letter.
• Applicants’ Curriculum vitae (CV).
• Certified copies of educational certificates. Please note that all certificates in foreign languages must be translated to English and be confirmed by Botswana Qualification Authority.
• Certified copy of a valid passport – biographic data page (picture, passport number, date of birth, birth place, expiry, etc.)
• 2 x Passport-size photos (with a white background).
• Clearance from relevant professional regulatory bodies
• Letter from the patient’s doctor (Nurse Aid/ Care taker).
• Supporting letter from relevant Ministries for government projects
• CV for understudies

Up to seven (7) days Emergency Work Permit

• Supporting letter
• Certified copy of a valid passport – biographic data page (picture, passport number, date of birth, birthplace, expiry, etc.)

Opening hours: 7:30 am to 12:45 and 13:45 to 16:30, Monday to Friday, except public holidays.

Eligibility

• Foreigners who require the immediate employment or other engagement in an occupation for reward or profit for a period not exceeding three (3) months in Botswana.

Fees

The legal processing fee;

• Three (3) months Emergency Work Permit is BWP 1,000.00
• Up to seven (7) days Emergency Work Permit no cost {free}

Validity

• The emergency work permit is valid for either seven (7) days to three (3) months
