Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. The application for an Elite Scholarship Fund shall be made by the National Sports Associations, upon identifying a potential scholar-athlete who should be considered for financing from this Fund. BNSC contact details
2. All applications should be submitted to the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) Secretariat before March 31st of each year, Applications received after the lapse of the submission date, shall be processed in the following year.
3. All applications shall be screened, for processing and consideration by the Sports Development Committee en route successful candidates will be shortlisted.
4. The shortlist shall then be filed with the Sports Development Committee en route to the BNSC Board, whose decision shall be final.
5. The Fund is reserved for deserving cases. Where the Commission Board is convinced that the athlete will not reach world standards even with special assistance, the athlete shall not be considered.
6. Once the shortlist has been compiled, it shall be sent to the Director of Tertiary Education Financing, in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, for funding.
7. The Fund shall be administered by the BNSC Secretariat through the Sports Development Committee, and managed by the partnership with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Department of Tertiary Education Financing.
8. Beneficiaries of the scholarship will be notified of the outcome via the applicable notification mode and given further instructions.

Required Documents

• scholar’s personal profile endorsed by the relevant institutional sports association (BISA/BOTESSA/BOBSA).
• The athlete should supply the National Sports Associations (NSA) will all the supporting documents as requested.

Eligibility

Athletes should meet the following minimum requirements:

• Athletes should be citizens of Botswana under the age of 21 years
• Athletes should be admitted by the tertiary institution (to play sport) of their choice but which offers sport.
• Athletes should have consistently placed in medal positions (Gold, Silver & Bronze) in National and Regional championships over a minimum period of two (2) preceding consideration for eligibility.

No fee associate with the service.

Need for the Document

• Elite Scholarship Fund was established to assist excelling athletes under the age of 21 to get funding to study and train, from the government or any interested private business entities.
• The Fund may assist in the payment of education expenses for athletes, who have proven academic excellence and athletic/sports potential for further education.
