Procedure

How to Apply
Apply In-Person

1. To apply for the Economic Diversification Drive (EDD) Certificate, applicant should visit the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry head office {view EDD address/contact details below}.
2. Obtain the application form for Economic Diversification Drive (EDD) Certificate, from the EDD head office, or nearest EDD regional/district office, front desk or use this link to download the application form Link
3. Fill in the application form correctly and attach all the required documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below and submit them to the attending official at the nearest EDD, Department of Industrial Affairs (DIA) office.
4. The official will then verify your application file and issue you an acknowledgement receipt containing the application details.
5. The application file will be forward to the Economic Diversification Drive Unit for approval and processing which will take ten business days to complete.
6. Applicants will then be notified of the outcome via SMS, if your application was successful, visit the EDD office, you had file the application with and collect the Economic Diversification Drive (EDD) Certificate against your identification document and acknowledgement slip.
   

Apply Online

1. Visit the government e-service portal Link and link on the ‘Economic Diversification Drive’ option, Under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry.
2. You will be re-directed to the next page, read through the terms and condition and if you agree to them, click on ‘Accept’ button.
3. On the next page, read through the instruction page carefully then click on the ‘OK’ button.
4. The application form; ‘To register Under the Economic Diversification Drive’ will then be displayed, kindly fill out all the information accurately for else processing by the ministry.
5. Upload all the required supporting documents {signed copies} as listed on the form “checklist”, then please print out a copy of the filed application form for future reference, before submitting for assessment and processing by the Economic Diversification Drive Unit.

   • Note: All attachments should be in PDF format and less than 4MB in size.

6. You will receive an acknowledgement email within 48 hours of submitting your application with a reference number from the ministry.
7. Applicants will then be notified of the outcome via mail, SMS or phone, if your application was successful, visit the EDD office and collect the Economic Diversification Drive (EDD) Certificate against your identification document, reference copy of the filed application form you had printed out, before submitting the application file and the acknowledgment reference number, you received from the ministry.
   

NOTE

• Applicant can check the status of their application via the government e-service portal Link click on ‘status enquiry’ option, Under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry.
• Enter the reference number you had received from the EDD and your email address then click on ‘submit’ button.

Required Documents

• Copy of most recent financial statement (balance sheet and income statement).
• Financial statements for the enterprises with an annual turnover of below P500 000
• Audited financial statements, for those enterprises with an annual turnover of P500 000 and above
• New enterprises are allowed to submit projected financial statements provided the enterprise has been in operation for less than a year, (for the first year of application only)
• Certified copy of current valid relevant license or registration certificate from a competent authority, (for manufacturing/industrial license attach the copy of the receipt for annual fee).
• Certified copy of registration and/or incorporation certificate issued by the Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property, (For new EDD applications only).
• Copy of Tax Clearance Certificate for tender purpose.

• Businesses registered in Botswana engaged in manufacturing, service provision (excluding agents/ distributors/retailers/resellers etc.) and agricultural production.
