Botswana - Apply for Declaration by Intention (Citizenship)

Apply In-Person
- Applicants should visit the Ministry of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Department of Immigration and Citizenship head office or nearest Regional/District Offices in Botswana or Botswana Missions abroad for the application process for the citizenship Declaration by Intention {contact details are listed under “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page}.
- Collect the Form K “Declaration on Intention to make an application for a Certificate of Naturalization by a Foreign Spouse” from the immigration offices or embassy/consulate office. Read through all the sections of the application form and fill it accurately.
- Submit the completed form, attached to the supporting documents {as listed under the” required document” section of this page} to the immigration office in Botswana or embassy/consulate office abroad to the receiving officer.
- Note; the declaration form should be filled by the spouse in the presence of a magistrate, judge, or Botswana ambassador/consul.
- The receiving Officer will then verify, if all the necessary information and documents have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria, if everything is in order, you will be issued with an acknowledgment slip; containing details of the application.
- All application files will then be forwarded to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship office in Botswana for assessment and processing, based on the information and documents that have been provided.
- If your application is successful, Maturity letters will be sent to you via mail.
- If your application is rejected a rejection letter will be sent. You can re-apply if you wish. (There is no time restriction for re-submission).

- Certified copy of the spouse’s valid national identity card (Omang).
- Certified copy of valid residence permit.
- Certified copy of marriage certificate.
