Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for Customary Law Land Grant, the applicant should visit the Botswana Land Board or Sub Land Board offices within the area of jurisdiction. Use this link to view Botswana Land Board or Sub Land Board offices address details Link.
  2. Applicants are required to collect the Application form for Customary Land Right. Copies of the Application Form are available for free at any of the Botswana Land Board or Sub Land Board offices countrywide or directly download it using this Link (Application for customary land rights form)
  3. The application form duly completed in all respect, and the supporting documentation should be submitted to the Botswana Land Board or Sub Land Board offices within the area of the applicants’ jurisdiction.
  4. The receiving official will then verify that all the necessary documentation and information have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the application file.
  5. Applicants will be issued with an acknowledgement letter as proof of submission of the application.
  6. The application file will then be forwarded to the land board Committee for vetting and consideration.
  7. Applicant should visit the Botswana Land Board or Sub Land Board offices where the application was filed, after the processing period lapse, to check the outcome.
  8. Residential plots are allocated through a waiting list process depending on the availability of surveyed and serviced land.
  9. Upon allocation, the plot holder shall be issued with a Deed of Customary Land Grant printed on a paper with special security features against the applicant identity document.

  • A certified and valid copy of Omang
  • Copy of Instrument signed under Married Persons Property Act (proof of Marriage regime if married and Affidavit if not married)
  • Decree absolute and court order where applicable
  • In the case of widow/widower, a death certificate
  • In the case of People Living with disability (PLWD) copy of the Disability Card
  • In the case of disadvantaged and marginalized groups, a confirmation letter and assessment report from the District Council
