Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. To assess the courier Service, interested persons should visit the nearest Botswana Post office with the parcel that is to be transported. Botswana Post Branch Offices Contact Details.
2. Express your interest to access the service at the customer service desk/office.
3. The parcel should be packed in a carton, gunny bags, wooden cases, etc., and sealed with a sellotape properly, to protect it. On each package, a distinct mark will be stenciled (if required) i.e., in case of breakable goods instructions as “Handle with Care”, “Glass with Care”, etc., will also be mentioned on the package.
4. Clients are required to also address the parcel or package with the following information before presenting the parcel/packet to the postal office for shipping:
   • Clearly write the name of the person meant to receive the package (addressee)
   • Write the name of the street, name of the building, and location
   • Make sure you indicate the house number or the floor and room numbers if available.
   • Indicate the telephone number.
   • Finally, make sure you write both the town and country of destination.
5. The parcel will be weighed and the client will be required to pay the prescribed cost, The Costs for the courier delivery services will vary based upon the weight of the packaged item, as well as the distance covered to the destination point. payment for the service may also be paid upon delivery of the parcel by the receiver i.e., Cash on delivery for parcels (C.O.D parcel).
6. The customer will be issued with a receipt containing details of the shipment (receiver/sender {full names, phone number, postal/email address}/address where the parcel will be delivered/ parcel tracking number {Waybill}, etc).
7. Upon the arrival of the parcel to a designated Postal branch office, the addressee will notify, that the parcel is no route and he/she or an authorized person should be present at the listed address to confirm the delivery and collect the parcel against an identity document, made to sign against the delivery book and pay the service fee, in the case of Cash on delivery for parcels (C.O.D parcel).

• Any consignment that weighs under 300kg per item - or 1000kg per shipment. For consignments above 1000kg, our freight services are at your service.

Insured Parcel

• The Botswana Post offers standard insurance of up to P500 per shipment. However, any parcels exceeding this value will need additional insurance which we can arrange for you at an additional fee. Alternatively, you may secure the coverage of your choice through your preferred insurance provider.
• When items are lost, the customer is compensated and liability is taken by the responsible Postal Administration.

Unclaimed Parcels

• Unclaimed mail items are returned to the Return Letter Office (RLO) and letters are kept for a month and then returned back to the sender if the address is provided and parcels are kept for a year and if they are still not claimed they are disposed of.
