How to Apply
Apply In-Person

1. Applicants must first have applied for the declaration of intention and obtain a Maturity letter to be able to apply for a certificate of naturalization (spouse of a citizen)-form K. {Refer to wikiprocedure website i.e., Botswana -Apply for a declaration of intention}.
2. Applicants should then visit the visit the Ministry of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Department of Immigration and Citizenship, nearest Regional/District Offices or Botswana Missions abroad for the application process for the citizenship Naturalization of Foreign Spouse {see address details below}.
3. Collect and submit the completed Form N “Certificate of Naturalization by Foreign Spouse)” along with the supporting documents {as listed to the under required document section below} to the immigration offices or embassy/consulate office to be verified by the attending officer.
4. Applicants will then be required to pay the processing fee at the immigration/embassy office, cash counter and obtain an acknowledgment slip.
5. All application file will then be forwarded to the Department of immigration and Citizenship office in Botswana for evaluation and processing.
6. After the application file is received by the department, you will be publicized in the Government Gazzette to give those, who are against your citizenship application to voice out their concerns.
7. If the is no pubic objection, the department of immigration and Citizenship office will send you a letter via post inviting you for a citizenship interview.
8. Applicants are then required to avail themselves for the interview at the immigration and citizenship office in Botswana, at the scheduled appointment date and time as outlined in the letter.
9. If your application is successful,a letter will be sent to you by mail, requesting you to renounce your foreign citizenship in the presence of a magistrate, Commissioner for Oaths/Notary Public in Botswana or a Botswana ambassador/consul if abroad.
10. If your application is rejected a rejection letter will be sent to you via mail. You can re-apply if you wish. (There is no time restriction for re-submission).
11. The certificate of Citizenship by Naturalization of Foreign Spouse will then be drawn by the Department of immigration and Citizenship and issued to the applicant at the immigration offices or embassy/consulate office, upon payment of the required certificate fee and against the applicant identification document and acknowledgment slip

Eligibility

• Foreigners who are married to citizens of Botswana and have resided in Botswana for a period of at least five years.

Fees

• The legal processing fee is BWP250.00

Validity

• The Certificate is Valid Forever and it is issued once i.e. the no replacement, if it get lost/stolen/damaged.
