The Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) was established by the Government of the Republic of Botswana to provide start-up or already developed businesses/projects with assistance in form of (Loan Finance, Property Loans, Equity, Guarantees, and Business Advisory Services (Mentoring and Training). Beneficiaries of any CEDA loans, once approved are normally subjected to pre-disbursement conditions as the CEDA deems fit i.e. training and mentoring of the business/project by the CEDA unit responsible.
The CEDE training and the mentoring unit responsible at an agreeable time with the beneficiary, shall, interactive coaching that aims to ensure that the entrepreneurs acquire the relevant skills, knowledge, and competencies for operating their businesses. CEDA training offers hands-on entrepreneurial development courses, where promoters from the same industry are placed together for purposes of information sharing amongst themselves, and with the trainer. There are two types of training that the CEDA offers as follows;
a.Industry-Specific Training
- This is a more formal approach to training, where colleagues from the same industry are collectively trained by a specialized professional. The trainees acquire knowledge on the theoretical aspects of the business and also get an opportunity to learn about challenges and opportunities for improvements.
b.External agency training
- This training is done twofold: A training agency invites CEDA to assign a group of entrepreneurs requiring specific training to attend a training course with that agency, or a CEDA beneficiary demonstrates an interest in a course that has been advertised locally and expresses an interest in attending the course. This training is outsourced for training that we cannot provide. This training includes international training courses that are relevant to the promoter.
Once satisfied that the right training has been passed to the entrepreneur, the CEDA can start disbursing the beneficiary with the applied loan, in accordance with the implementation schedule agreed with the applicant (borrower).
