Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for Animal husbandry and folder support, the applicant should visit the nearest District Animal Production (DAP) Office. (Use this link to view DAP offices address details using this link: Link
  2. Applicants are required to collect and complete the LIMID 1 - Animal Husbandry and Fodder Support Application Form, Forms are available for free at the Enquiries Desk at any of the District Animal Production Office (DAP) or directly download it using this link Application form
  3. The completed Application form, attached to the supporting documents (as listed under the ‘Required Documents’ section below) should be submitted to DAP extension offices.
  4. The LIMID officer shall verify that all the necessary information and documents have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before they are submitted to the Committees (district and headquarters) for assessment and processing, which is within one working day.
  5. If approved, beneficiaries will be registered with the LIMID support program, an animal production officer will contact the applicant with details related to the status of his/her application and given further instruction on how to access the financial support.

  • Certified copy of valid National Identity Card (Omang).
  • Quotations for the items required.
  • Those who apply as syndicates should provide a certified copy of the constitution.
  • A group (2-4 members) should provide a completed partnership agreement.

EligibilityEdit

To be eligible applicant should meet the following criteria

  • All applicants shall be Botswana citizens aged 18 years and above;
  • Applicants should have valid Omang (Botswana identity);
  • Applicants for the infrastructure development component should own either cattle and/or small stock;
  • Applicants shall not source stock (i.e., animals, equipment, etc.) from their parents and siblings. Also, applicants cannot buy from their own companies;
  • Small stock obtained using LIMID funds shall be ear-tagged upon receipt for ease of identification;
  • Cattle owners should have registered brands;
  • Cattle should have Livestock Identification and Traceability System (LITS) bolus inserted;
  • Suppliers of small stock should have proof of ownership verified by the local extension agents and/or traditional leadership (Bogosi);
  • The owner(s) of a borehole/well willing to form a group with other farmers (s) to equip shall have written agreement and state the number of years he/she would be with the group. The Commissioner of Oaths will sign the agreement and all group members will be required to have a copy of the agreement;
  • Groups formed to acquire grants from the LIMID program will be required to draw a constitution, which will be approved by the Commissioner of Cooperatives.
  • Applications must be accompanied by at least three quotations from suppliers and service providers. Where there is full evidence of a shortage of suppliers and service providers, a justification letter signed by the extension agent and/or Bogosi will be required to accompany the application forms; and
  • Applicants must state the number of livestock they own which will be verified by the local extension agent and/or Bogosi

Application instructions

  • Only applicants who farm in communal areas are eligible for these grants.
  • The maximum grant for each package are presented below:
  • Fodder processor P12 000.00 Kraals,
  • crushes and loading ramps P28 000.00
  • Fodder barn P15 000.00
  • All quotations must be obtained from registered/certified suppliers.
  • The government will not exceed the maximum grant stipulated above. Labour and transport costs are not included.
  • All applications must be routed through district extension offices.
  • All approved applicants should sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the Botswana Government.
  • Please note that giving false information may result in your application being disqualified and/or prosecution

The Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development-LIMID Program is a Government program; which assists farmers with the purchase of fodder processors, building fodder barns, constructing kraals, crushes, and loading ramps and aimed at improving livestock management.
